This is from watching running only. No idea how they do on blocking assignments and all the other things that factor into playing time.

I think Fluff will be a workhorse later in the game. I'd try to mix Gayten in a bit more earlier from a running perspective.

So in order
  1. Fluff
  2. Gayten
  3. JJ Hill/Kolin Wilson
We have a good problem to have.

Am I the only one who feels like this is aligning with 2014? I thought back to when we had Josh Robinson and Brandon Holloway in the backfield. Robinson was the bowling ball when you needed tough yards and Holloway as the speed option.

Lots of parallels here if these RBs continue to produce like they did Saturday.

I’ll just say that I think Hill has tons of potential, but he wasn’t really running against a fresh, motivated D. He’ll be a nice option against tired defenses late.

I see a lot of similarities but let's pump the brakes a bit. Perkins did not grade out well last week at RT and McVay and Prudhomme only graded out so-so and that's vs ULM.

I asked a friend of mine (work colleague) a former player how good will State be this year and he said, "As far as Kamario can take them." I would add Kamario is not really superman, he needs that OL to play well for him to showcase his real abilities.

RB's, WR's and TE's are there for this team for sure and so will KT but.... KT threw a couple picks that were dropped last week, he can't do that vs better competition... or can he. It's going to be fun but if you really want to see what can happen here... let them get a legit LT and one two Jeffery Simmons & Montez Sweat types in the off season. $$$$ need to be spent if they got it as this is our window of opportunity!

Depending on how much longer KT stays, this could be a really fun next year or two.

Excellent Six Pack post of taking a thread about our running backs and using it to **** on the OL, passively **** on the DL, partially **** on Kamario, and only mention the running backs in passing lumped in with the tight ends..

2014 was Robinson and Perkins. Holloway wasn’t featured til 2015.

I would start Fluff for his blocking ability and ability to always get yards. Dude is stout. JJ Hill would be my first off the bench. I'd run a special package with Gayten based on his speed. If we have to come back from a deficit, I'm putting Fluff in to block on passing plays, even though I saw him whiff on a blitzing linebacker last game.

I would leave it about the same but definitely make it a point to get Hill some carries earlier just to see if he still breaks off big runs. If so slowly keep increasing his playing time. Imo Fluff didn't look great. I know ....fresh defense, first string yada yada. Eta, good point on blocking skills. We are definitely gonna need a plan for Smith. He needs 2 guys on him

My bad.. I truly think this team can be really damn good with just a couple more guys, sorry my feable mind went there.

One of the brightest spots is that RB room.

That RB room is the real deal. I was shocked at Hill's performance even late in the game with a tired defense that had lost its fight. Then Gayten and Wilson were damn good as well. State has recruited well and more coming at that RB spot next year. Lebby is freaking getting RB's and WR's at a very high rate.

Do we have that sure fire NFL RB? Maybe, maybe not. I am not as informed on RB talent around the country but it's very clear to me that they are good. With the speed Lebby likes, I am wondering just how much he has been able to get HR hitters at the RB position. Vs ULM, the answer is absolutely he has and it's clear these guys are good.

How good they can be on the field will be dictated by how good that OL will be. I will not back down from that part as it is part of it. Fluff did not look good last year. He had no shot as that OL was like a sieve but this years' OL is better. The RBs will be given a better chance to showcase what he can do and everyone should be excited to see it play out.

From what I saw of MN in their 1st game, I would up the carries for our fastest backs. Their D-line looked solid. It might be hard to run between the tackles. But, their team defense did not look as fast as us. We may have to take advantage of speed outside early and force them to change how they play D.

Except when Holloway was run up the middle, then he was a sacrifice…

Holloway and Shumpert backed up Robinson in '14. Perkins' last season was '13 - and he lost carries to Robinson dropping him from a 1000 yard back in '12 to only 540 yards in '13.

My bad. But what about the kid who wore #7 and got hurt all the time? Someone is missing from that group. I guess I just have PTSD from Holloway in 2015 and blocked out his contribution in 2014. My bad.

As far as staring Hill over the others. As fans we get caught up in highlights and a player's ceiling but as a coach you have to raise the floor by eliminating negative plays first. One missed blocking assignment can shut down a drive or even get your QB knocked out of the game or heaven forbid season.

I can be excited to see him progress to a starter but if they decide it's Gayten, Wilson or even Crosby or whomever, I am good with it. Coaches get to see them everyday and know things I don't.

Smart man here. Minnesota has a near elite defense. Their offense is average and they had two special teams TDs against their FCS opponent.

Fluff is valuable in an offense like this because while he’s not the most explosive back in the world, you can count on him to get 4-5 yards a carry and set up manageable second and third down situations for you. The other guys are more unpredictable. So I think you’ll see Fluff definitely on the field more than anyone else.

Would like to see the other guys against decent competition. As has been said, it’s hard to know how to judge rushing numbers when we were up 40 points with those guys in the game.

I know one thing, it creates an interesting dynamic for next year. All of our RB’s could technically be back in 2027, Fluff included. Law of averages says someone is probably hitting the portal after this year. But we’ve got a bunch of options at our disposal for multiple years, potentially.

I don't think there's any doubt Bothwell is the clear #1. Guyton #2 but probably not so much a rotation as used when needed when Bothwell needs a breather. The other 2 looked great, but it was late vs a terrible opponent whose DL was completely gassed. I'm sure they have a lot to learn about pass blocking.

Excellent work by him. Preshitting masterclass.
Sixpack is kind of like our media. Good news isn't allowed without a bunch of jack holes coming along to remind you that all things are bad all the time.

And God help you if you denigrate the Rebs. They'll be along shortly to make sure everyone knows that they know we suck worse.

It's a coping mechanism.

10000%. Especially the olemiss part. We seem to have a lot of 'fans' who like them as much as they hate us.

Elite? They played maybe the worst FCS program in all of FCS last week. Had two punt returns and scored a TD with less than 3 min in the game.. that elite defense looked like this last year
Aug 28: W 23–10 vs. Buffalo
Sep 6: W 66–0 vs. Northwestern State
Sep 27: W 31–28 vs. Rutgers
Oct 11: W 27–20 vs. Purdue
Oct 17: W 24–6 vs. No. 25 Nebraska
Nov 1: W 23–20 (OT) vs. Michigan State
Nov 29: W 17–7 vs. Wisconsin
This was there home schedule last year
On the road
Sep 13: L 14–27 at California
Oct 4: L 3–42 at Ohio State
Oct 25: L 3–41 at Iowa
Nov 14: L 13–42 at Oregon
Nov 22: L 35–38 at Northwestern (played at Wrigley Field)
Bowl game
Minn 20-New Mexico 17 in OT

let’s pump the brakes on Minn being elite in anything
