"Had that guidance been in place and followed Saturday, Michigan would not have been given an extra play and Western Michigan would have won the game 12-7, based on the clock shown on the NBC broadcast."

So, make things right and give WMU the win they deserve!

So, who was responsible and where is the reprimand and discipline for this failure to follow protocol?

"It was an error in the application of the established replay protocol governing this specific end-of-game timing situation. Had the protocol been properly followed and the program-feed clock been used, no additional play would have been awarded."

I think the NCAA could overrule the outcome of the game since the game was, in fact, over. They could reasonably say any referee decisions that happened after the game-feed clock was zeroes don't count.

But, as another poster pointed out, it's almost more embarrassing for Michigan to be gifted the win than it would have been to be stuck with the loss.

I think having the win taken away by the NCAA would be more painful, especially after the Michigan fans stormed the field. I see it as akin to a beauty pageant contestant being named the winner, going through all of the crying and hugging and then being told the announcer made a mistake and the other girl really won.

The bigger issue UM has is that they are paying $3 million/year (4 year deal) for a QB that was just neutralized by WMU.

So far, I haven't seen a QB who appears to be worth the huge NIL money some teams have lavished on them, especially the ones who came out of HS with big NIL deals.

IMO, if you're paying 7 figures for a QB and don't win a title, it's wasted money.

Michigan got hosed on the NIL QB thingy
Michigan and most of these other schools hose themselves. It's crazy spending an exorbitant amount of money on any College Freshman. Even with the 5 star guys, the bust rate is high especially with QB's. Ironically, the team most responsible for the high QB salaries strategically have it right. Miami outspends everyone on a QB, but not on a freshman QB. They let a QB develop in someone else's system and overspend to take him away from you. If high salaries are going to be paid, I think the portal may be the way to go for important positions like QB, LT, and Edge Rusher going forward. Why pay an 18 year old based on potential and performance against HS kids. Based on today's logic, a guy like Willy Korn would have been a millionaire before he took one college snap.

I agree with Dabo here on this point. He talked about the foolishness of taking these kids and making them millionaires right out of high school and having them play at 2, 3 or 4 schools. They'll blow through their money, and if they don't end up in the NFL, many of them will be left without a degree (or not a useful one) and won't have any particular community since they bounced around so much.

I still think it's totally absurd to pay a college player 6 or 7 figures, BUT if you're going do it, Miami's approach is the smartest.

It's crazy to think the Michigan QB could play there 4 years and if he's semi-smart with his money, he could retire right out of college and live very handsomely.

Isn't that what happened to WMU when they thought they had won?

The way HS QB's, as well as other positions, are changing High Schools you would think that NIL has made its way down to that level as well. 🤷‍♂️
