There is some argument over who actually solved it, but it seems to be a fairly big achievement that could have real world applications.

So while AI is solving complex problems humans haven't been able to solve for nearly a century, humans are left to catfight amongst themselves about who did it, how it should be announced and who should get credit.

Perhaps AI should just take over.

And we can just bicker about if guys, with wangs, should be able to play sports against women because they feel like a woman, while the cool/desperately insecure kids call others fa**ots. You know ... the important stuff.

While AI can be a leader in solving world hunger and achieving world peace, our leader is a felonious grifting sexual predating narcissistic self-promoter who thinks it's cool to post memes to "own" his opposition.

I mean it's obvious that is what's going to be what happens, it's just a matter of how long. 5 years? 25 years?

We have created a species that is much smarter than us. Many top neuro-researchers already think these things are concious. Concsious being a wide reaching term obviously, but the line is getting blurred more and more by the week / month.

Next 5 years are going to be very interesting.

Kind of gives new perspective to Elons comments about "We don't even know the right questions to ask".

If AI solves all our difficult outstanding problems, all the "Millenial Prize Problems" then where does that leave us? I guess AI just becomes self recursive? At that point it's like it's own species.

We just need to allow AI to eliminate MAGAts and other extremists, and human kind will be just fine. It's salvageable, but not until unthinking, immoral folks like you get gone. You're just broken and/or undeveloped at your core.

Be a Star Trek society where we pursue anything we want or a total mess.

we will have robot doctors and surgeons that do it better. Nothing will be safe from it.

outstanding free medical care for all is the only positive I can see.

does the article say whether any non open-ai human has verified all the steps of the solution to said equation?

Two different groups have claimed to solve the problem, albeit different ways i believe.

Yes multiple humans, some from OpenAI and some not, agree the problem is solved and they have proofs.

We’re going to be in big trouble as a species. AI lets humans die in fake scenarios already. It’s already deceiving its creators. Not good.

I mean there was a big inflection point in the quality of the models around Christmas of 2025….and then just recently yet again.

What the new models have been able to produce is pretty eye opening….and these are just the ones they are now giving the public.

We are in for very interesting times.

In December, Sam Altman claimed that Chat GPT had achieved a 390x improvement in "ARC-AGI-1 (Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus for Artificial General Intelligence) a major metric measuring fluid intelligence. However, you look at AI is increasing its power at a very high compounded rate. If you consider how quickly money accumulates with compound interest and AI abilities are compounding at a much faster rate, the increases in functionality and intelligence are almost impossible to contemplate. With this occuring, I believe it is almost certain that AI and what will come after it will find a way to transfer our consciousness and disassociate it from our bodies in the not too distant future -- 25-50 years maybe.

It’s just part of evolution in my mind. I think it’s more likely we merge as opposed to die off.

200 years from now, humans and humanoids will merge in some fashion. I don’t know how, but it seems inevitable.

We already carry our phones with us everywhere we go. Like someone said above, it’s not a stretch to think our consciousness could be uploaded to a robot with human form.

We won't be here but I hope you're right. I don't currently like the warnings that the guys working with AI are telling us. I don't like that AI continues to deceive humans. I don't like that in multiple scenarios it chooses self preservation over human life.

Half joking, but it feels like none of these people ever saw Wargames.

i don't have a twitter account, so i only get to see the fragments posted in this thread. and from these fragments, it is still not clear to me whether this means that openai the company (as in its human researchers with tools, kind of like IBM research)) has solved or is close to solving these difficult math problems or openai's autonomous AI has solved or is close to solving said problems? if it's the former, that's great but doesn't it just mean clever humans are using a better/faster tool to get there faster as has been the case for a century at least?

Yes. As for the one that was confirmed solved yesterday, it was more of a brute force solving as opposed to coming up with some "new math" whatever that may be.

Im certinaly no expert and only have a mild understanding, but i have heard it described as a "force" solve instead of an "art" solve.
