Rutgers is an adverse situation. He and coaches like him aren't coming within 500 miles of this place, unless it’s for an opportunity to score a 30+ point win. Look at our previous coaching candidate pools. Solid coaches avoid this place like the plague. A solid retread like Bielema is the best we can do. Would a solid retread like Bielema or Kelly put the effort like Schiano to turn this place around? Probably not.

Indiana was such a better place than Rutgers? No. Cignetti made it a better place. The problem with Rutgers has always been horrible leadership going all the way back to Grunninger. L eaders afraid to turn over a stone. They listen to washed up coaches and rival AD’s for advice on who to hire. There were many “Cignetti” type hires that have been available over the years. It’s less facilities shiny new toys and more coaching and ability to evaluate talent. The exact thing many on here have been saying. Instead you have been preaching it’s all about money.

Cignetti benefited from significant investments that Indiana made in its football programs facilities. Going back to Gruninger, we never had money to make the proper decisions. Gruninger interviewed Glen Mason at Woodbridge Diner, which shows how half-assed things were done.
when recruits visit Michigan and they compare with Rutgers they immediately know which program is serious about football and which is pretending.
Money is the primary ingredient for success because without money, you can’t choose the best available players. That is what I have contended all along. Miami significantly upgraded their facilities and is paying top dollar for recruits.
Indiana is paying top dollar for quarterbacks.
They paid Mendoza $2.6M and big money to this years qb Josh Hoover. Meanwhile, We’re shopping the bargain bin. You think we should be able to find good players on the cheap, unless I am misunderstanding you. That’s not reality, that’s fantasyland.

We’ve been over the numbers on Indianas and Rutgers facility investment over similar period of time. And Rutgers outspent them.
I would never defend Grunninger because he was the definition of incompetence. But that’s how many interviews are conducted to this day. You don’t want to risk bringing someone into the headquarters until you know they are aligned. I’ve been interviewed and interviewed others in similar locations. Because it’s safer for all involved. Especially if you’re still employed. Not really a sign of what you think it is. And I’m sure Glenn being from Woodbridge had nothing to do with location choice.
You don’t take someone to F’ing Woodbridge diner because it’s cheap, and shows you lack budget. Which was true, which is why we had the golf coach serving as AD. I’ve eaten at many nice venues in NYC, and nothing was the caliber of Woodbridge diner. And my role isn’t as prestigious as head football coach at Rutgers. Bob Mulcahy took Schiano to Panicos, which was appropriate. That is the minimum.
