Nope, not kidding at all. Call it a mind block, I was thinking a person, not an award, particularly when we are talking about Mets, and correct me if I am wrong, the last Mets infielder to win the award was David Wright in 2008. So, no kidding aside, that's a stretch to even consider for a Mets infielder, isn't it?

My first guess was Gio Gonzalez won a gold glove and could play second base? 😂

Last Met 2B to win the gold glove was Doug Flynn in 1980!
Yup I believe that is correct. Wright was the last Gold Glove winning IF for the Mets.

Semien won a Gold Glove last year with Texas so that's why we were using that as the baseline for his D. He hasn't been GG worthy this year but also hasn't been bad there either.

And there you go- that's why I had no idea. I generally don't follow MLB outside of the Mets and those dammm Dodgers and the other team from NY because you can't get avoid the coverage. I knew nothing about Semien when he came aboard. Same goes for Bichette.

Was that a gold glove truly earned or one given because of years past he was robbed.

Green has stated that he doesn't want the manager job full time, and expects to return to the front office. Obviously, that could change.

There is speculation that Green will be appointed to the GM position (which currently doesn't exist) reporting to Stearns.
Yep.

Probably will be the plan !

I know Green has front office experience but does he have GM experience ?

Short answer: How the f--k do I know?

Longer answer: The GG selection process is 75% human, 25% computer. There are seven human voters from each team - the manager and six coaches. They may vote only for players in their league, and may not vote for their own players.

Semien had won previously in 2021, so there would seem to be little reason for a Lifetime Achievement Award. Could it have been unearned? Sure, any human vote could involve human bias. Is there any evidence or even speculation of that? Not to my knowledge.

Which takes us back to the short answer.

I will say Semien has not been the worst defensive 2B. He hasn't been GG quality but he's been plenty fine. I didn't think he'd hit but I didn't think we were going to need him too if everyone else in the lineup performed as expected.

Benge is already better than Nimmo and we saved money and years in the long run.

Having Alonso instead of Polanco doesn't do anything but move the needle by a few wins. We weren't making the playoffs the way everyone under performed to begin the year and was hurt.

The biggest mistake Stearns made was not firing Mendy in the off-season or right during or after the long losing streak. Green has way less talent after the selloff and basically the team is performing better.
Are you and Doc so far into analytics that you stopped watching baseball on the field?
1) You could be saying the same about McNeil but McNiel has played all year. He is not the worst in the field and didn't expect him to hit. But there is a 15mil or so difference.

2) Benge better than Nimmo- why is that even a point to make- Nimmo was moved because 1) he was here before Stearns 2) Stearns was so smart, he felt Tucker was in the bag.

3) AlonsoAlonso vs Polanco doesn't move the needle- As I told Doc Worm- you all need to stop talking baseball...Let me give you something sobering. Polanco may have been by far the worst MLB player this year. Pete- in the American league - HR- 1 / RBI- 1 / Runs 1 / Hits 2 / Games -1 / 2B 2 / BB - 2 / SB - 5 / Ave - 7 / OBP - 4 / Slg - 2 / OPS - 3

Biggest mistake Stearns made - has nothing to do with the manager. Same manager had us running away in the first half last year but Stearns f-ed up the trade deadline. I didn't like Mendy but he is a scapegoat. Stearns also has no clue how to really get very good starting pitching, doesnt make smart corrections in the roster and has no clue how to manage an "Enterprise" club vs a small market club. I am not saying he should be out of baseball but he is in the wrong job.

Anyone trying to even remotely find a silver lining with this guy is wrong.

To justify his moves- with dumb *** "war" type stats- come on man- watch the game and not what a piece of paper tells you.

You watch this game long enough, you'll see something you've never seen before. Today's game ended with a Marlins base runner picked off first base - down five runs!

Maybe he had an early dinner reservation and wanted to get there on time!

I know what you mean about a mind block or whatever. In all the recent (since Thursday night) football threads, every time somebody types DL, I automatically think Defensive Line instead of you know who.

It's people typing on phones making assumptions that we should know what they are thinking. I literally never heard/saw golden glove abbreviated as GG, and Zak thought I should know. I'm not mad, just perplexed to get dressed down when I was thinking it was a comparison to someone with the initials GG.

Anyone catch the end of the game tonight?

Mets lead 7-4 in the ninth and they go to Senga for the save. He gets hit hard - a drive caught at the wall, then two straight doubles. Willard goes out to the mound. Message received. 10 straight ghost forks, 2 K's, game over.

Darling said "He threw a Sutter".

Sean Manaea stats for the season:

First five innings -- 2.88 ERA .189 BAA.
Sixth inning and later - 36.82 ERA, .692 BAA.

For you acronym-phobes, BAA is Batting Average Against.

If you want to trade in the baseball prediction market (I.e., bet) on tonight's game, you can either trade in Stock or trade in Junk.

Mets looking for Junk to be high-yield.

Mets built an 8-0 lead tonight before the fish ripped off 8 straight to knot the game. As it turned out that only served to rile the Metropolitans up as they've answered right back with 6 runs to open the game back up.

But the BP has been crap. Thank you Stearns as anything to do with pitching is against your principles.

Another wacky stat- first time in history Mets give up 14 runs and win the game.

Stock made a bull run on the mound and then came the crash.

Lavender got deep into the red, and it was not easy being Green, pulling him.

Myers's name was colorful, but he stopped the bloodbath, and the Mets won.

Wild game for sure. I think the best record since the trade deadline which no one saw coming. Good to stick it to the fish with a sweep when they've done it to us so many times.

The totally re-worked pen has been pretty good except for tonight.

Your hatred of Stearns is blinding you. The bullpen was crap tonight, but it has been very good all year. In fact it has been the strongest aspect of the team.
Exactly. Bullpen has been more than solid even after unloading so many guys at the deadline.

The bullpen has not really been the Met's issue. Heck- even before the deadline- the BP core that we moved were super good. And it has been pretty solid since the deadline. In general- most games, the pitching staff is doing enough to keep us in games and then the offense is getting clutch hits.

Also noticed- winning has really started with Lindor being back to full strength. I am not seeing his mental errors and he has played the field like the elite SS that he has always been and he is getting clutch hits in so many games.

Now- question- in regard to the GG's this year- and yes, did that just for my good buddy, KS...

Is there a RF who would deserve to beat out Benge?
Corbin Carroll. Maybe Seiya Suzuki. Fernando Tatis Jr. will get votes on reputation if nothing else.

If Benge is one of the three finalists I will be pleasantly surprised.

Fun fact I just learned. Mets have had two managers named Green in their history - Dallas and Andy. Both were former Mets players. For each, their Mets tenure lasted exactly four games.

I know the BP has been solid, but any reason to sh+t on Stearns is a good thing in my book. He has pushed the Mets further from playing for a world series due to his attitude of thinking he is smarter than everyone. My issue with him is just that. We all make mistakes and most of us can admit to it. This fool doubles down as if everyone else is at fault all while making things worse.

How come no one brings up the fact Milwaukee continues to roll without him. Was he really that big of an influence on the success of the Brewers? Or was it just a coincidence?

Well obviously we can't answer that but you can look at it the other way as well. Milwaukee didn't have any sustained success in years until he got there. Did he build that foundation for the franchise to prosper or somehow went along with the ride even though he was in charge.

A clock is right twice a day. The Brewers have been more consistent since Stearns' departure. They have finished first every year. When Stearns was in charge in Milwaukee, they had success, but it was up and down. They would finish first one year, fourth the next, then first again. Since he graduated from Harvard, every organization has labeled him the "Wonder Boy", yet Stearns hasn't delivered. He is an analytic guy who will get you above .500, but never get you to the promised land. When I think of Stearns, I think of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Always a solid team over .500, but never close to winning a championship.
