Avery is alot better than I thought they'd be so I'm not gonna say they can't win against McDowell, I think Avery will be competitive with Owen and Polk and possibly Heritage this year.

Patton and ACA are not very good. Owen made Patton look better than they are in the first half. Owen played better 2nd half. Gave up a score in garbage time. I don’t believe Avery will be competitive vs Owen, Polk and Heritage.

Avery @ McDowell- McDowell 21-14 (Avery is better than usual, but playing Patton and ACA are no doubt scheduling wins. McDowell is far from elite, but should have enough to handle Avery. The higher scoring this game gets, the better chance Avery has. If Avery is able to turn this into a shootout, I give them the edge due to McDowell's lack of offense. Having said that, I expect McDowell's defense to give Avery a little bit of a wake up call following that ACA gun show.)

Hendersonville @ Erwin Erwin 38-28 (This should be a quality game. If you watch one game Friday on NFHS or plan on traveling in the Asheville area, this is the one to watch. Erwin will be able to match up athletically against Hendersonville better than most teams. Hendersonville had a pretty rough showing against East Hendo which makes me hesitant to pick them here. Talent won that game, not coaching. Having said that, they have an impressive and decisive win over West Hendo who beat Erwin by 13. Erwin has one of the best QB's in the mountains however and I expect him to pull this one out for them.)

Chase @ Madison Chase 42-7 (No shocker here. Madison has looked terrible offensively and a 3-0 Chase appears to be a very respectable team this year. Should handle business with limited issues. Throwing nearly 30 times a game, expect a big day from their QB and this one to get out of hand early.)

Robbinsville @ Mitchell- Mitchell 21-18 (This will be a quality game as well, but for much different reasons than Erwin and Hendo. Statistics indicate this will be a low scoring slug fest. Robbinsville has struggled to score all year already being shutout once and Mitchell's defense has been carrying them up to this point. With that in mind, Robbinsville will be on par with Mitchell athletically speaking. This will probably be the first game for Robbinsville where they do not feel outgunned athletically, so I expect their offense to show up a little better. Their defense up to this point has been pretty solid. Mitchell is coming off a blowout win against a poor Andrews team. Mitchell's offense so far has struggled against the teams not named Andrews and I expect similar here. The magic number for me is 20, because I do not see both teams scoring 20 in this game. This is one of those games where you give the notch to the home team in most situations, and that would be Mitchell in this case.)

Swain @ Mountain Heritage- Mountain Heritage by Forfeit (The fall of Swain should be studied. What is going on over there in Bryson City. How a team with 8 state titles is struggling to field a varsity team is beyond me. Something tells me they'll all be healthy for Andrews however.)

Owen @ West Henderson- West Henderson 35-14 (Owen is not awful and will beat bad teams. However they are not playing a bad team this week. West is a weird 1-1 as they have a really good win @Erwin, but they have a bad loss at home to Hendersonville. Owen is noticeably worse than both of them, so this shouldn't be a super difficult game for West. Owen may keep it competitive in the 1st half, but the depth chart and coaching for West will show up in the 2nd half.)

Patton @ Polk- Polk 35-7- (Patton is bad. That really does not need further explanation. They are bad every day of the week, especially on Friday nights. Polk is coming in at 0-3, but have showed some life offensively in the run game. With 2 seniors averaging 7.2 yards a carry, that should be more than enough to handle Patton who has already been shutout twice this year. Patton is coming off a 38-21 loss to Owen which may sound encouraging, but that 18-0 loss to Avery is just glaring at everyone involved. Best case scenario Patton gets a couple TD's, but don't expect any miracles in Columbus Friday night.)

Is Erwin that good this year? I know they're very well coached. Would love to see them beat ACR later in the season.

They got plenty of athletes and a good Quarterback with that I would say if AC Reynolds don't play any better than what they have showed so far, Erwin I think will win that game .

If you compare scores then you will be the concerned one. Look at last years results. Football is about matchups and consists of injuries development etc. comparing scores is silly. Never maps out

Its still hard to say just how good the wolverines can be Patton is no measuring stick there just bad Chase is better than people think and that game was closer than score would indicate 3 drives inside the 20 that resulted in nothing a bad interseption that set up a short field small mistakes changed that game Newton Conover was just better more speed all over the field than. Polk has and they didn't play there best and the Landrum game to me falls on coaching backs averaging 7 yards a carry but he throws the ball 15+ times only completes 4 and the qb was off all night not sure why but every pass was high all night that night usually more accurate than that and he threw multiple picks still a 12 point game truth is there probably middle of the pack I could see Owen and Madison games going either way hendo and Mitchell should be favored I'd say heritage should probably be favored and polk should be better than Avery but this team has been different each week at there best they could be 3rd in conference at there worst last or second to last that's just my thoughts.

At this point in the season Owen has yet to play a complete game. Should had a running clock with Rosman and Patton but had guys out, played terrible and in some cases started subbing early. Cherryville had more speed than us but we could have just as easily won that game as lost it. They scored 2 more tds than us but the kicking game made it worse. We had 2 trips inside the red zone in the 3rd quarter and came away empty handed. Owen too has the potential to beat anyone in the conference and also lose to everyone in the conference. Yo me there is no dominate team in the WHC. Hendo may be the closest thing to it but really their speed is all they have on any of the other teams. If someone can play ball control and keep their offense off the field anything can happen

Polk and Owen I would say are very similar skill wise. They will beat bad teams, but they are not a good team. That will probably be a really good WHC game later in the season. It should also decide 4th place, because I think Hendersonville, Heritage and Mitchell are the pretty clear cut top 3.

That game should have not been that close, mit up 14-0 about to score fumble . Up 14 - 7 driving in robbinsville territory Riddle goes down.

Take your blinders off pops! Turnovers and incompetent officials was the difference in this game. I’ll say you earned one score the first was gift wrapped! So don’t go acting like you were leaps and bounds better. Anyone that was there knows this to be true. Honestly some borderline shady stuff in Ledger tonight!

I will say this about the MIT / Robbinsville game. Neither team played that well. Both had opportunities that they failed to capitalize on. And I will say the officiating was….well it was not good. But I will have to disagree with Tarheel it was bad both ways. Did Mitchell get the benefit at times, yep. But there were other times that Robbinsville came out on the good side. Saw my first ever 10 yard unsportsmanlike penalty last night. Hate to be critical of the officials as they are doing something that I am not but there was 2 or 3 of them last night, wow. I could call out which one but every time I see them I just cringe.

Mitchell could not score once they got into the red zone and Robbinsville had turnover issues throughout. From a strictly Mitchell point of view I was surprised that Robb didn’t kick the xp and go to overtime since the MIT qb was injured.

Final thoughts hope the QB for Mitchell gets well along with the other injured young men from both teams. And early prediction for next week Hendo by several.

Now let’s go make a doe into summer sausage.

On the last score of Robbinsville the announcers said he was a yard or two shy of the end zone and it was pretty obvious wondering if you saw the same thing?

I would like to see it again but from my angle he looked short. But that was just one of many calls I thought they missed, again both ways.
