This is the best RB room we’ve had since at least the first couple of games of 2020 when you had Kylin Hill (before he peaced out), Woody Marks, and Dillon Johnson, though obviously they weren’t in an offense that was going to run the ball much at all. But we’ve got some serious options there this year. I think JJ could easily be the number two back sooner rather than later. He has a certain ”it” factor”. Looks like someone that can have a big time career.

Kamario is a special talent. I think he’ll have some up and down games this year, might have a game where he throws 3-4 INT’s and it gets us beat, but he also is going to have some games where he goes Vince Young on somebody and just takes a game over himself. This is the heir apparent to Dak that we’lve been waiting a decade for. Just hope the supporting cast is good enough this year and next.

I thought we pass blocked well but run blocking was very meh. I thought ULM started to wear down and that’s what opened the big holes for some of our chunk plays, but it didn’t seem like we were having just a ton of success with the RB run early on. Something to monitor over the next few weeks, how well can we run the ball on decent teams with guys not named Kamario?

Defense has an interesting challenge next week with and offense that is going to operate at a slower pace, hand the ball off from under center a lot, and probably not take a ton of risks in the passing game. I don’t think they can keep up with us if it turn into a track meet, but I’m also expecting some regression from the offense with it being Kamario’s first road start and Minnesota being a solid defensive team.

We’ll learn a lot next week and it’s a good opportunity for us being the CBS 2;30 game with not just a ton of other interesting games in that window. Bama-Kentucky and Arizona-BYU are about it. Definitely will be more eyeballs on us next week than there were this week.

As the year goes along, JJ Hill and Cooper Cosby will prove to y’all what a coup it was that we landed both of them. I am not worried that JJ will up and take off for brighter lights. Like K1, he signed with us because he wanted to be a Dawg. He is a leader, and he loved to build for success. This was his attitude about Tupelo High. If he wanted to go to Oregon, Michigan, or joined the poopsy cheerleaders at A&M, he would have.

I have never seen an MSU offense this crisp IN THE FIRST GAME. I was there and I am wondering what game some of you saw. K1 had time to pass. Receivers got open. We scored fast and often. All this crapping about the outcome is a mystery to me. Young quarterbacks miss reads. This was no Huntzler defense. All you girly men complaining, live in the Pre-shitting world.

Record offense. A defense that bends, but does give up the long ball. Field goal kicking worked. PAT’s were 100%. Pulliam called on the pin them deep with his two punts, did. Receivers were great. This was a good start of a better time to come.

So pointing out early game and early season ???s is considered complaining by people who were sitting in the stands not just watching the QB, RBs, and WRs? Got it.

Enjoy watching the games without reading the board all game long. You will likely live longer and enjoy it more. I like to write what I observe with my eyes. For example, early
Run blocking wasn’t sufficient. After leaning on their defense for 25 minutes, the running game took off and exploded for high 300’s. I noted the pass rush still needs some work because I focused on watching both guys on each end getting bogged down. As someone on who mentioned. This very possible and even likely Arnett didn’t want to show too much for film.
I just don’t see that as complaining or being negative. I see it is simple observations at that specific time of the game. I would BET both Arnett and Lebby will point those same questions when they do the film study.
You aren't complaining. You are making informed observations. Glad you are.

If ULM's QB was clocked at 23 mph, we need to offer him next year for some skill position. When you discover speed.........you go get it.

  • Kamario IS unreal.
  • Fluff is an excellent blocker, hard to take down, but I think JJ Hill has more upside. His balance, speed, and agility are better and he's 6' 220lbs. Don't know if JJ can block yet. Fluff is awesome and looks like an MMA heavyweight, but JJ is gonna be different. Gayten is slim and fast. We have a great problem at RB. There are 5 that could start.
  • In today's fast paced offenses, the defense automatically lines up in different formations. As the D plays more and has more film to study, we will see more of what we want. The corners and safeties are legit. Our LB's are more agile and faster than we've had in a long time. The D line needs Moye back. Their QB was clocked at 23+ mph. He was damn fast, so I thought we contained him well. 3rd downs and short yardage were dominated by the D. Keep in mind Arnett wil allow yards between the 20's to try to force turnovers and negative plays, but he's tough to get 7 on.
  • Anthony Evans is stronger and better at YAC than maybe any receiver in the last 20 years. Marquis Johnson could start for anybody. He's a plus athlete. Francisco is the bigger bodied guy with a huge catch radius. He's going to win the 50/50 balls. Zion is better than I expected. Younger guys are better than ever. WR room is loaded.
Fluff has NO vision. Didn’t last year. It’s a trend. He’s a brick wall but easy to take down. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Lots of RB depth.
DL and OL are still questionable, we’ll know more In week or two.

When did players speed quit being measured by their 40 time & start being measured in mph?
I think top end speed is a good measurable, especially for WR and CB. Shuttle speed is another good measurement for RB's too. Either way, I think top end speed became more measured when ESPN started tracking it in live games.

  • I wanted to see a little more out of the defense. Wanted to see more negative plays. Nothing truly to complain about defensively but it wasn't as dominating as I would have liked.
I'll say this about the DL comments many are making...it seems that many of the passing plays they ran were short, quick routes where the QB was getting the ball out fast.

I think that had something to do with our guys not getting to the QB as much as we would have liked.

I've seen us not take of business in games like this. I came away encouraged - I'm still concerned about the team when we play better teams, but I see potential overall improvement. Potential being the key word, of course.
