it will be interesting to see how Hank comes out of the gates
Yep. Normally the group that takes sides on who KF picks to be quarterback and never gets to play will now get to see the back-up, whoever that will be, play in the first have of the first game.

Can't wait for both of them to throw 2 TDs each and watch the QB war explode on here and with the media. Lol

He's always coached QBs to value no mistakes over making big plays. You can think that's a good thing, or you can think that's a bad thing. But it's the way he approaches his QBs and the game in general, limit mistakes. The "safer" QB has always gotten his nod unless/until that safer QB becomes a detriment.
FWIW, In an interview on the ANF podcast Lester said the QB's security of the football was the #1 criteria for his QB. 2nd was their ability to stretch the field. So Lester fills the same way.

Which is probably why Kirk is so fond of him.

Credit to the staff. Brown played well and they scored the first three possessions. They then rotated Hecklinski in as they said they would. They both did more good than bad.

In Lester we trust.

And I am glad they hired a full time QB coach to allow Lester to spend more time on the overall offense.

Heck had a lot less support for whatever reason. Hank starts and there are large holes for Moulton and others to run. That opens up passing too. Heck comes in and several times was running for his life in the backfield. It was like someone flipped a switch and the Oline went from great to poor.

I would say that Hecklinski has a better ball. Quick release, tight spin and gets to the receiver on a line with good accuracy. Brown locks in too much. That said, Brown made the right throw more often than not yesterday. It’s very possible that we will need both this season. We will know a lot more about Brown after ISU

On his post-game pod last night, Leistikow was making the case that we haven’t seen enough of the two QBs to be able to make a decision. I like Chad a lot, and I think he’s probably the best writer on the beat; but last night, I thought he sounded like a guy who was Team Heck, and wasn’t quite ready to accept defeat.

He did acknowledge that Hank was the better QB yesterday, and gave him a higher grade for the game. Just said wants to see more before he’s ready to hand over the keys. Just seems like he’s really rooting for Heck.

FIFY. 😉

To our fanbase’s credit, the majority have seemed to have watched the game objectively, and come to a conclusion many would not have previously predicted.

will be interesting to see if Heck gets to start the game vs Clown U, and then they look at the 2 games in their entirety....with Kirk, you never know

I don't see anything wrong with Leistikow's take here. We've seen very little from either QB (obviously the coaches have seen more).

From what we know and have seen:
- Coaches say it is neck and neck
- Brown didn't look great in limited time last season
- Brown looked bad at the scrimmage, Heck looked good
- In game 1, Brown put up better stats and most would say he looked better than Heck. Although I would argue neither looked particularly good, and that a few dropped passes (by both the offense and defense) could have had a significant impact on the stats and overall perception of each QB's performance.

Based on this, I dont think it's crazy at all to want to see more from both before making a final decision.

That’s a very fair position.

But as I said in another thread, what would a different result next Saturday tell us? If Heck is slight better, we are no better off as far as making a decision. If Hank is again better, I suppose that confirms what we saw Saturday, which might be comforting, but now we’ve wasted time giving reps to Heck. If Heck is dramatically better, do we even trust those results? Because we didn’t after Kids Day.

I’m glad both guys were given opportunities up through Saturday, and I defended the coaches decision to do so. But at some point, you’ve got to make a decision and move forward.
