Michigan gets 1 second gift from refs...

That was ridiculous. I would be livid and filing a complaint if I was WMU.

However, why college (and pro for that matter) do not have a tenth of a second display for their play clock just makes no sense. As soon as the clock hits zero there is "technically" .9999 seconds left. But you can't just say that and add a second back on if there is no display.

There should be a straight up investigation of this. This is highway robbery. The clock was reading zero while the ball was in mid-air for the first hail mary effort. Unreal.
I told my wife I bet they get one sec back, and then there will be PI late flag but that prediction was not needed. Such criminal BS. Those refs should never get another game...

You should be able to retroactively change the outcome of games when clear corruption has occurred like it did in this game. Western Michigan won
Agree. I hate the “we got it wrong” from conferences after such things like this happens. The “my bad” comments don’t change the outcome so they are useless.

Another yearly overrated team like Oregon. Bad part is they prolly won’t drop either of those teams and they should drop a lot
Me thinks Stein was a bigger deal for Oregon than maybe their fans wanted to accept. Were rock and rolling in Kentucky. God, please beat bama. That would be epic. Let’s knock off LSU while we are at it. lol.

Out here in Oregon they have been yapping about being NC contenders without any mention of their OC being gone. They just assumed they aren't going to miss a beat. But then again, most teams here out west have overly inflated views of their teams due to lack of overall conference competition.

For sure. Was USC the last west coast team to win a ship? And that was forever ago.

Maybe WMU can sue for any emergency injunction to reverse the outcome. That does seem to be how adverse rulings are dealt with in college sports nowadays.

Although I doubt the “find a friendly local judge“ strategy will work here, given that their opponent is the more popular team in the same state.

Michigan will end up losing 4 or 5 games. So I doubt this ends up helping them make playoffs.

Hate it for western Michigan and its fans though.

Big 10 damage control. 🙄

That explanation seems to miss the point. Nobody’s disputing that the ball would be dead the moment a guy that jumped from out of bounds touches it. Their explanation leads with a point that doesn’t need explained.

But according to the clock we all saw on TV that moment doesn’t occur until after 00. Whereas the clock they’re claiming the replay review booth saw shows 01. They claim the clocks were synced up, but clearly they were NOT synced. Why?

I know they won't, but the NCAA should overrule the call and declare WMU the winner.

Yes. We're told the only clock that had any time left on it was the clock that only that replay crew could see. Sketchy at best.

A few years ago what should've been a massive scandal just got swept under the rug. The pac 12 (iirc) central replay booth was busted conferring with conference officials and sponsors during games. Zero doubt that happens elsewhere and results in scenarios like last night.

Now those manipulations don't "fix" games. For example Western Michigan could've knocked down the bonus hail Mary and they still win. However all those small manipulations in one direction all create an environment intended to make it easier for one team to win. Last night is just the latest example.

I still remember early in Stoops coaching when we had Florida on the ropes in OT, the clock went to 0 well before they snapped the ball, refs didn't throw the flag for a delay of game, and then they ran a play and scored to either extend the game or beat us.
Exactly what I was thinking of. But, once the game is over, nothing can be done to change the outcome. Those refs needed to be investigated for gambling on games.

It appeared to me as well as most that the game was over. But, even with the one second back it was bad that Western Michigan gave up an obvious Hail Mary. Even before the play the broadcasters talked about the Michigan receiver likely to be thrown the ball. It is exactly what then happened.

Glad Im.not the only one that noticed that bs. Western Michigan was absolutely robbed. That clock was double goose eggs a good second before any play was made on it coming down. There is no way there was an extra second to add there.
Agree. Are we now going to go to this mysterious tenths of a second clock on every close delay of game penalty? Amazing seeing people defend this online.

Not a fan of either team. Just a guy watching football and I was disgusted by the blatant cheating.

Totally agree, you can’t defend it. Those that do are nothing but sheep.

Because that clock they claim they used wasn't real. This was all a scam to give them another shot.

The pollsters should drop Michigan to the 20’s, if not completely out of the Top 25 tomorrow. That would be real life justice, imo.

It makes sense to me. They are saying the field clocks and the decision makers clocks are synced but the tv networks clocks aren’t.

That happened to us on an Oweh play last year and once I saw the in arena clock, it was like yeah I was wrong.

If they are that inept that the clocks can’t be synced tv-to-stadium, then the tv clocks need to be one second behind and not vice versa. Or ya know, fix the freaking clocks
