That was totally rigged for Michigan. That is worse than the worst of refs assigned to Mantachie vs Mooreville.

I don’t care about Western Michigan or Michigan, but I’m legit mad about this. That wasn’t just a referee mistake or a bad call. That was an intentional decision to give Michigan one more play. I’ve never seen a more obvious display of cheating by officials in my life

Therein lies the rub. The sport is rigged when it needs to be.

If there was time on the clock, before the snap, it is a TD
You obviously as always have no clue of what's going on. All your simple mind has to do is watch the play, but your original take explains the ruling. The ball was out of bounds and there was zero time left on the clock!

I'll be a conspiracy theorist and say some money changed hands between the Big Ten and MAC in order to get this statement out there.

If their statement is true they need to a) release the video and audio and b) explain why there is a different clock that refs use from the one on the stadium scoreboard and why fans and players don't get to see it real time.

I don’t understand… so the Big 10 is admitting the play clock and game clock were in sync via the fancy strobe flash thing 85 minutes prior to kickoff?
Yes but they determined that the WM player touched the ball with one second left and he was out of bounds so the clock is immediately dead.

Well thankfully Michigan has a sterling reputation so we can be sure they’ll do the right thing. If they said it’s good, you can bank on it.

Also, in a completely unrelated note, how is JJ McCarthy doing in the NFL where you can’t steal the signs of the opposing team and know their calls before the snap?

The most ridiculous thing was the fans storming the field and the players celebrating like they had won the national championship. That would be like Alabama fans storming the field yesterday if they had beaten East Carolina on a Hail Mary. Ohio State and Michigan State fans should never let them live that down.

Then they are liars.
Yeah what they showed there is different than the scoreboard clock shown in the broadcast. Why is it different? I get that the digital broadcast clock could be off but what they are showing is the scoreboard clock. How can that not be official? Something stinks bad about this.

After no other play in a football game, but the last play, do the refs review the clock to make sure the game clock was stopped precisely when they want it to stop.

Good grief. I just heard Michigan won a few minutes ago. I turned it off after the replay right after the play shows 00:00 on the clock while the ball was still in the air

There’s a simple matrix to run this through, which decision results in the most potential accusations of foul play? If you end the game at 0:00, no one bats an eye. You throw on an extra second, it just begs people to say, “Rigged!” If there’s a clock that only refs can see, this is the first anyone has heard of it.

Michigan AD - oh no, we just lost! Quick, get Birmingham on line 1 and see what they would do if it was Alabama.
Birmingham- simple, just put a second back on the clock and try again. If you don’t score just keep calling a defensive penalty until you do. They can’t do anything about it.

That's leadership protecting future revenue.
Regardless of reasoning, if WMU themselves aren’t pissed about it, then far be it for me to give a 17 about it at this point.

And another hot take….foul play or not, all WMU had to do was stop two 50-yard hail mary attempts. It’s a play that is successful 2.5% of the time, historically. They had greater than a 95% chance of success in doing just that, but still choked it away. They can only blame themselves.
