Yeah he has an adequate arm. I don’t see him as a big field-stretcher, but like I said in the game thread, it was a nice change to see our QB set his feet and put some zip on the ball.

Only thing I would add is he needs to trust the pocket. He almost got a 2nd intentional grounding when he panicked when there was that much pressure if he would have stepped into the pocket. Not a biggie he'll see it on tape and hopefully comes with time

Having an athletic quarterback that can run around AND rip it is non-negotiable. He’s a little bit on the small side, but he’s pretty damn tough. I don’t think he’ll be reckless in the open field . Guys like him can succeed at college level. I hope he wins a lot of games here and leaves with a fat bank account.

Well our seats are on the 5 yard line W stadium so I didn’t have a perfect view of every attempt so there is that. I’ll try to catch the game in 60. Gilmore’s 2 drops were my wtf moments. He definitely got alligator arms on the one pass across the middle. Smiths miss was pretty well defended it looked to me. One low throw with “hands under it” was also a really awkward position to try to catch the ball I thought.

I don't believe his arm was that good. He threw loopy short passes and didn't step into throws. He relied on his receivers grabbing the ball on jump passes.
I don't know if he would have benefiter from a redshirt year but he just never looked as good as the hype. I doubt he plays meaningfully for Oregon.
You also had the baggage of his family. None of it was worth it.

Smiths went straight through his hands. I think right after that Colandrea screamed at the sidelines. Not sure if it was because of the drop or not but he was upset for sure.


The one with 2 hands under it was awkward. It wasn't an easy catch but again it was a catchable ball.

You know the term "turnover worthy throws" from the QB? I guess this is my version of "catchable balls" by the WR . So they may not be what you would consider pure drops BUT is label them as catchable balls.

I guess that might be a better definition. Plus again I think I'm taking into account that our WRs are supposedly the strong point of our offense. I don't think that can be understated. It's the group you expect to make those plays.

Always lobbed deep balls. Even when guys were open he would lob it up and give DBs a chance to recover. I always questioned why he wouldn't just "put it on em" when they were running wide open. I already seen that AC does that.

So yeah I can see why people think Dylan doesn't have a big arm. But he does which made it frustrating watching him play.

Wasn't overly impressed game 1 against an inferior opponent. Pretty sure he will improve though, and we have a couple more cupcakes left.

Sorry it was 72 yards in the Polynesian Bowl. You don't throw a football 72 yards without a big arm. Like I said he pretty much never showed it at Nebraska so I get why it's questionable. I'm actually curious to see if they "teach" him to THROW it he ever plays at Oregon versus what they "let" him do at Nebraska.

I thought he showed good velocity. He missed some throws where I think he was being careful about not putting the ball at risk. The grounding inside the 5 was stupid. His feet made a huge difference in the game. Gilmore dropped a couple of gimmes.

What is underated is the effect that the running threat has on pass rush. The rush stalls and makes protection look better than it is. Raiola made the line look bad by having NO running threat. Raiola's mobility and speed were WAY below average for a D1 QB. Maybe in Oregon he can sit back and loft bombs to wide open 5 star receivers - that will "cover" his deficiencies. Letting him go was the right move for us.

I think Raiola was infatuated with being Baby Mahomes, and he was determined to mimic the real Mahomes' sidearm throws and improvosational flips. Of course the reality is that those are just a small part of Mahomes' arsenal, and he carefully picks the spots where he uses them. Most of the time, Mahomes makes traditional throws, not changeups and helium balloons. Raiola never seemed to figure that out.

You are not wrong about that game either. Since he's been at Nebraska he's thrown that way. I'm assuming somebody coached him m to do it that way and it happened before he got to Lincoln. It also never changed in Lincoln. Which is why I said I wanna see if it does in Eugene..

I say all that but back to the initial point his arm is certified. He has a strong arm.

Texas Tech has such a reliable pile of NIL money to spend from donors that they will certainly drop around $5 mil on a QB that is not named Raiola. I wouldn't be surprised if Dylan is out of the P4 next year.
