Both have looked good (and not so good).
Nothing is going to change based on this game IMO.

I would go with Brown because he’s 6’4, throws a good deep ball, and seems to be the more accurate of the two. I was also impressed with Brown’s footwork and poise in the pocket.

Obviously, neither quarterback is going to separate himself this game. The problem is that’s going to likely be the case regardless of how many games they would split reps. I would pick Brown, but if they go with Heck, that’s fine too. They just need to pick one quarterback after this game and name him the full-time starter. The worst case scenario is you have plenty of confidence in your backup quarterback. Just make a decision and live with it.

This Iowa team has the potential for a special season. The quarterback battle is splitting hairs. Again, go with your instinct and name a starter tomorrow. Get it over with. Don’t drag it out.

Brown has looked better unfortunately Hecklinski had a couple of dropped passes.

Think #9 has looked better throwing but also put the ball in danger a few times 2 probably should have been picked

Yeah, I think he was a little slow in his recognition. Also, the one that Diaz played defense on I think it was James that was open down the field on that same side. that being said, I’m been pleasantly surprised by Brown. Of course, Heck settled down as well.

Brown got worse as the first half went on. Unfortunately I think both are just going to be average. I think Heck has the upside this year, but I hope it’s just Bessinger next year no controversy.

Hank played better today I thought but wasn't a huge margin. NIU was absolutely awful. I think Heck will get some run against ISU.

I really liked the mobility Hank showed when he evaded the rush and picked up a first down with his feet. I think he has more upside in a number of ways.

Both showed flashes at times.

Seemed like Heck was double clutching his passes alot not trusting his reads

I’m sure this is what KF saw a out of in practice, Heck was throwing behind his receivers

This was not close, at all. Even on Heck’s completions he was behind throwing to the back hip. That robbed every one of his receptions of 3-5 YAC, maybe more if they made a man miss.

Heck doesn’t deserve a single snap against ISU, unless we’re up by 5 TDs.

Halfway through the game I posted I think we have two good QBs. I came into the game thinking Heck but ultimately exited the game thinking Hank. I also left the game unsure about both!

I think Hank benefited from less drops and far better running game when he was in. AND he threw what SHOULD have been an INT and COULD have been a pick six on the out route.

But Heck absolutley did NOT rise to the occasion like I expected against a very inferior opponent. And his pick in the end zone was brutal.

Adjusting for the drops for Heck and run game for Hank, I felt it was about even. But I also just “felt” like Hank was better and can make all the throws with a much better arm. He was a DJV drop (albeit a very tough one) for a TD and slight overthrow of Diaz for another Td away from a pretty dang good game while splitting time.

I say you ride with Hank .... Quit the splitting reps BS. You can always go back to Heck if he starts struggling too bad

Hank was better. My only real problem with him was he seemed to lock on his first receiver. Never really surveyed the field and missed some open receivers because of it.

Name Hank the starter so he can get all the work with the ones moving forward. He will be serviceable

Just go with Brown against ISU. Offense got out of rhythm once the changes started. Really don't like QB battles going on into games.

That said the starting OL, Moulton, and receivers looked good. Really hope in another month it's not the QB that's holding this team back. Too early to tell but had a bad feeling when Iowa didn't grab a transfer QB with all the quality transfers out there.

Which is why they really need to just pick one so they can get all the reps. I think Hank can become a 1.

Yah I think that's the way. Throw hecklinski in if the offense needs a shot of life in the 3rd or 4th quarter of one of the bigger games where the defense is keeping us around.

I feel best with Brown being named the starter for ISU and no more switching every 3rd possession.

Unfortunately with KF, once you’re named the starter you never lose it. Ideally Brown has a short leash. If he struggles in the first half, Heck should start the second.

The whole offense was in better sync with Brown.
Very true, and much more important than any individual QB stats. If it weren't Brown's job to lose before, it is now.

I expect Brown will play the entire first half against ISU, unless he pulls a "Stanzi's first start vs. ISU" in which case Heck had better be ready to play.

It is probably worth noting that Brown hasn't proven anything that he hasn't before - he already has a history of playing well against overwhelmed opponents. ISU is not a juggernaut, but they aren't NIU. Hank will have his first chance to prove that he can play well against a P4 team, which he has not done to date....

Agree. On the pass to Diaz that, luckily wasn't picked off, he had a wide open receiver up the field that was who the pass should have been thrown to.

Agree. He missed a wide open receiver downfield on at least 2 plays, and threw to the short route instead.

Sounds like Rudock has taught him everything he knows....
No, just a chance for film study and hopefully adjust and improve. The pass to DJ in the corner I think was DJ not running the route correctly. That's a back corner throw and that's what Hank threw but DJ looked over his left shoulder and didn't run to the corner. Couldn't adjust and dropped it. Film study and more chances for improvement.

ISU is usually a tough out. They hair is on fire when the get to play their super bowl against the Hawks.

Since we’ve been using baseball lingo for the Iowa QB situation this season (“first at-bat,” etc.), I think we can continue that by saying the Hank should be our starting pitcher, but that Heck could still be an effective reliever out of the bullpen at some point.
