Union @ Bear Grass
I don't know much about BG, they went 11-1 last year but these charter and privates schools can be hard to get a read on. I know Union though and they are still years away from being competitive. I feel bad for this kids up there that actually want it...... that want to enjoy success. I heard last week the middle school team at Union QUIT because of conditioning and if this is true thats very disheartening news. BG graduated their lead RB and got torn to shreds the past 2 weeks. Union has played 1 game after a week one bye. I do believe this early in the year... BG having played 2 games and Union only one gives BG an advantage. Union put up a fight against a big Southern Wayne team last week and I am sure they are hungry for a turn around week 3. A heavy load of Cromartie carrying the rock might get it done for the spartans. Give me Union!
Union 28-22
Hobbton vs Dixon
I am starting to feel like Hobbton might have a repeat of last year. Start off my getting stomped by Midway.... move on load up. Week 2 play and compete well against a much bigger and faster Triton. Week 3 Dixon...... and then make a run and compete for the conference going into later season. Speaking on Dixon man they run the single wing well enough to make even a spread lover excited. Watching Dixon is a treat because it is just ran so well and is so detailed. Dixon will have Hobbton when it comes to depth and size but Hobbton probably has more speed. I am not sure what happened to Hobbtons lead RB Amir Tate but I don't see any stats for him last week they are gonna need him this week to pull this one off. Hobbton has proven they can get it done on offense that defense is just really struggling. I don't think they can keep up for 4 quarters with Dixon. Hobbton will put up a fight but I see them falling to 0-3 but I expect them to go on a run after this week.
Dixon 50-35
Clinton @ Wallace Rose Hill
Well, the wagon took a little tumble last week. Clinton took a step back week 2 and they don't get a break this week facing another top 3A east team.... and its in Legion Stadium. Clinton has the pieces to compete no doubt but I am not sure those pieces are being used correctly at the end of the day. For example Jonah Boone! Speedster who is hard to get your hands on and can make 5-6 players miss in one play. Get him the ball in space right? No.... lets just run him right up the middle.... not outside... not screens.... just right up the middle. Maybe Clinton just doesn't have many cards to play with but I think the coaches could put certain cats in better situations. Onto Wallace lets be honest week 1 is one of the most brutal ways to lose I have seen. Take the lead on a late punt return and Mr. Referee takes those points off the board. Okay move on still got a chance and the long snapper snaps it over the punters head for a safety. Tough way to lose but they used it as fuel and went onto win against a talented kinston team in a game that took all night due to weather delays. Wallace usually struggles against the spread but they buckled down and got the job done. Was there some bumpy moments? Yes but still a very impressive win. Oh yeah and Wallace has Glover who is out of this world fast. Nobody on Clinton not even Boone can come close to him! I have seen him on the field and on the track and kid has D1 speed and is very humble. Wallace builds momentum this Friday and Clinton takes another step back while approaching a more kind conference schedule.
Wallace Rose Hill 42-16
Midway @ Lakewood
Out of all the county rivalry games I have been to over the years nothing compares to Midway @ Lakewood. Something about this game when it is at Lakewood is just special. The stadium gets extremely loud and the fans are right on top of you its such a great atmosphere. Lakewood seems to be building up steam after a slow start. Midway offense struggled at times last week but was able to lean on a great running attack. The defense showed out holding Clinton to under 200 total yds and holding Jonah Boone to 16 total yards. Lakewood has dudes, bunch of big skill guys that can fly around and run through you. Running back #24 is a 4 year starter and weighs in at about 225 kids a stud and is hard to bring down. Lakewood has fire when they play Midway year after year and I know they will fight for every single yard offense and defense. That Midway oline is hard to beat though with a bunch of 6'3/6'4 300lb boys holding it down. Running back Wesley Tew is going to get his weekly and QB will beat you through the air and with his legs. Defense looked lights out last week and they MUST carry that same intensity from last week into this Friday night if they want to win Sampson county for the 3rd year in a row. Gimme them Spiveys Corner boys!
Midway 34-18
