Watch em lose today. Nobody does disappointing quite like the American menSeven us men into the R32, and all seven are favored to advance. A few are smaller favorites, but something like 5 in the round of 16 seems very realistic.
Tough gritty win by Jess! 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Jess pulled away in the 3rd set by just keeping the ball in play and letting Fernandez make the mistake. Needs to improve that 1st serve for future rounds.Tight match between Pegula and Fernandez going on in Ashe now. Split the first two sets with Jess not serving well. Let's go Jess! You can see, I believe, her sister Kelly sitting in the player's box with a Penn State shirt.
She battled...happy for her. Definitely has to improve that first serveTough gritty win by Jess! 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Jess pulled away in the 3rd set by just keeping the ball in play and letting Fernandez make the mistake. Needs to improve that 1st serve for future rounds.

Tommy with a nice comeback but he's gone in the round of 16 because Alcatraz.... we will see about the othersPaul's in the 5th against Bublik (surprised Paul was favored honestly)
Then tonight Shelton better not choke (but...)
Michelson and Tiafoe...I dont have a lot of faith in them nor their opponents so....
To be fair--I don't expect anyone to beat CarlosTommy with a nice comeback but he's gone in the round of 16 because Alcatraz.... we will see about the others
Sasha.... MAYBE. That's about itTo be fair--I don't expect anyone to beat Carlos
This is going to be a very interesting match. To be fair--I don't expect anyone to beat Carlos
Sasha hasn't looked great--going to have to raise his levelSasha.... MAYBE. That's about it![]()
AgreedSasha hasn't looked great--going to have to raise his level
I'd bet on Carlos vs the field even with him just coming back from injury
I still question why Pegula played Washington a few weeks ago. She's played too much tennis leading up to the US Open IMO.Tough gritty win by Jess! 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. I think part of it was knowing she has a ton of points to defend at the Aussie Open next year and saw DC as an opportunity to pick up some to cancel out the 1st round exit the French...gives her some options next year. Tough call given her age.I think part of it was knowing she has a ton of points to defend at the Aussie Open next year and saw DC as an opportunity to pick up some to cancel out the 1st round exit the French...gives her some options next year. And later this year.
Ahh, I was pulling for Muchova! She's from the same town in Czechia that my parents are from. I think her potential years of winning a major are numbered, much like Pegula and Svitolina.Emma had a very nice win over Muchova--didn't see that coming. Already 3 women into the 4th
Agreed--Pegula has said she cares more about being #1 than a major title though--if that's true then it makes even more senseTough call given her age.
I really like Muchova as well. I can't see Svitolina winning one--but now she will because I said that lolAhh, I was pulling for Muchova! She's from the same town in Czechia that my parents are from. I think her potential years of winning a major are numbered, much like Pegula and Svitolina.
Chan was the best player on the court for sureFinally the ESPN love fest with the Williams sisters can end! Serena and Venus were defeated in a 3rd set tiebreaker by Chan and Joint. Actually one of the most exciting doubles matches I've seen. Williams sisters were up 0-5 in the 3rd set tiebreak before Chan/Joint rattled off 10 or next 12 points. Chan was incredible at the net making lightning quick volleys. Really interested to see how they do going forward.

Her right arm was heavily wrapped and I wondered if that was why her serve was so slow.Chan was the best player on the court for sure
The only thing I'll say to this is that for the most part I agree. But, the Williams sisters were playing back in the 1990's so to see them competing in doubles last night as well as they did was to me pretty remarkable. Finally the ESPN love fest with the Williams sisters can end! Shelton is 3-0 lifetime against Lehecka but 0-1 lifetime against Tsitsipas.Shelton's path is about to get easier as long as Tsitsipas doesn't collapse. Lehecka really not looking strong at all.
Yeah but Tsitsipas isn't the same player he once was--Lehecka is also, IMO, getting better--but stats rarely lie so good callShelton is 3-0 lifetime against Lehecka but 0-1 lifetime against Tsitsipas.
Yea, I loved watching their match last night. While it's probably time for both of them (or at least Venus) to hang it up on the singles side, I hope they keep competing together in doubles. The only thing I'll say to this is that for the most part I agree. Shucks. The mental part is overwhelming. So much for Amanda "should win"...played poorly today...lost it
Cramps?Madi just imploded--up 5-0 in the third and lost 7 straight. Wow
No--just mentally lost it--when she got broken the 3rd straight time to go down 6-5 she slammed the racket off her head about 5 times.Cramps?
Fritz choking it away. Story of his careerAmericans are doing a 180 from yesterday
Fritz was up 2 sets and a break--now going to a 5th
