The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

No, I'm not talking about the upcoming new Supreme Court term (though I am looking forward to listening to oral arguments on my commutes again).

Instead, tonight after my 3.5 hour drive home, I will unwind a bit by flopping on the couch, pouring myself a bit of Yellow Spot, and watching a little football -- any football, which starting tonight, will almost always be on TV in the evening for the foreseeable future. No more of my wife's "British Crime Dramas" after 8pm!!! It's only a matter of time before I'll be making comfort food favorites like a giant pot of chili, and a couple of dozen stromboli

Even better yet, the Kettler Medstar Iceplex is starting to get busy, with the return of the Protas brothers for informal skates this morning and Ovi set to make his way back to DC in the next couple of days, and training camps in about a week. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the "700 Club" line of Protas/Protas/Wilson wreak havoc. I'm also trying to figure out a way to get this season's best promotional giveaways -- thanksgiving butter dishes shaped like rinks and penalty boxes seem to be in vogue, but they probably won't hold a candle in terms of demand to the Alex Ovechkin Magic 8 Ball giveaway set for 2/23/27

I think Kyrou is very talented. He needed a change of scenery. He and Berube (the coach before Monty) didn’t get along, and the fan base jumped him on social media then he made some disparaging comments about Berube (who got them the Cup) when Berube was replaced.

"I’ve got no comment. He’s not my coach anymore.”

I think he will do well in WAS.

All wellers are wheated. Same mashbill as the Pappy family. The special reserve is fine, but it's correctly the cheapest in the lineup.

Agree with this. Kyrou is a damn fast skater but combines it with average shooting and (imo) not good enough vision to really take advantage of the speed to draw the defense. He only had 28 assists last year. A change of scenery probably benefits both.

In the 1962 college of coaches. Said his biggest regret in 50 years of baseball was not designating buck O’Neil as manager after he was thrown out of a game, which would have made buck the first aa manager in game, because he was told he’d be fired if he did.

So for all of my anticipation of flipping down and watching some football, alas, I have been thwarted. Last night we had a highly localized, massive if brief storm come thru around dinner. Won’t be surprised if it gets labeled a tornado. It moved my barrel sauna! Also took down a line of big trees in my neighborhood, some falling on historic homes. We’re ok but no power. Some of you may be pleased to hear that a big one came down in oak grove (nee stonewall Jackson) cemetery. One was estimated to be nearly 350 years old. Looks like I’ll be painting trim today.

What's the deal with that first photo? Is that an abandoned lot? Fence hasn't been cleaned in years, grass/weeds overgrown around the fence ... the lawn looks like it hasn't been kept up in years. I think the nado was doing that person a favor.
