Per Gemini:

The latest reporting from WRAL and national outlets outlines several new developments regarding the North Carolina football program:

1. Michael Lombardi Resigns

Following his placement on paid administrative leave in late July, UNC announced that General Manager Michael Lombardi officially resigned. His departure stems from an internal Human Resources complaint filed by a former front-office employee.

2. Focus Shifts to Steve Belichick

With Lombardi out, university-hired investigators are now focusing heavily on Defensive Coordinator Steve Belichick (son of Head Coach Bill Belichick).

  • Allegations: Lawyers are questioning witnesses about whether Steve Belichick used illegal or unprescribed drugs on the job or provided drugs to at least one UNC player.

3. Allegations of Sexual Conduct Across Staff and Players

The scope of the internal investigation has expanded significantly beyond HR compliance:

  • Recruiting Staff & Players: Investigators are actively probing whether a member of the UNC football recruiting staff had a sexual relationship with a player.
  • Assistant Coaches: Questions are also being raised regarding sexual relationships between assistant coaches and recruiting personnel.
  • Evidence Collection: Lawyers conducting the probe are interviewing current and former players, parents, and support staff, while requesting text message screenshots and digital records.

4. Ongoing CSC Inquiry

These internal culture and conduct allegations are running parallel to the external inquiry by the College Sports Commission (CSC), which is examining whether UNC violated revenue-sharing caps and third-party Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rules following the program's jump in spending.

The basketball program gave them the blueprint to get around the cheating. North Carolina* will always have as asterisk beside their name, wonder when they will put in on their jerseys?
