Generic CFB Week 1 Games Thread, Sept 3-7

Week in and week out Tom needs to be the one to set up these threads (nobody has Tom on ignore), but I’ll start this so he can bliss on his vacation.

A bunch of B1G BTN games tonight, UMass-Rutgers at 6 and UAB-Illinois at 9. The big game for tonight seems to be Colorado-Georgia Tech, 8pm on ESPN. I’ll update daily but I’m not Tom.

Will be rooting hard for Georgia Tech.

Clemson-LSU at 7:30 on ABC, Saturday. F the Tigers.

Glad the season is finally underway, been a long off season, holy cow.

This is not the Marshall-PSU game thread. That’ll be separate.

Nice football statue on the Rutgers campus (?). Paul Robeson?

No, it commemorates the first college football game, Rutgers-Princeton 1869. Very nice statue, lovely.

So Dylan Lonergan, son of Lance Lonergan (former PSU QB), is the starting QB for Rutgres. I don't remember much about Lance but he played a decent amount in 1988. Here is his highlights film, but many seem to be from Blue & White games when they actually played football. A large physical QB....Franklin would have loved him.

Dylan is not the son of Lance. He is the son of Dan. Dan also was a QB who saw a little action in a back up role in our amazing 13-3 loss at home to Cincinnati in 1983.

It is absolutely safe to say that Dylan is the best QB in the family, ever, already 😂

So are Dan and Lance brothers or cousins? There can't be that many Lonergans from Westport CT

Dan and Lance are brothers. The family donated very handsomely to PSU during the Paterno era, just like The Biondi family did in the early 80s. Joe always took care of the friendly families 😂😂😆.

And...after this first half I am beginning to think about what I said 😂. Now I think it's a 3 way tie...

Aside from weather, do you place any emphasis on teams with one game experience vs. teams that haven't played.

I've heard a lot of discussion on this over the years but never any solid reasoning or data one way or the other. One team is rested and gets to scout the other team's first game, but the other team has the advantage of having a game of experience.
