Fully admit I’m half azz following this story, so if the answer is buried in one of the other threads I apologize for starting this one.

But, why is the university choosing this hill to die on??

From a distance, it seems completely nuts to me that they’ve taken it this far.

This current timeline is probably the first time I’ve been actually proud of actions taken by the SEC in I don’t know how long
Yep, and I don’t think any of us are saying that the SEC is without fault, but it’s gotta be maddening to be tirelessly working so hard to bottle this circus up while a member of your own conference is seeing how much more chaos they can create

I think that they are trying to call their bluff, but I’m really not sure that the SEC is going to be bluffing

LSU will win this, eventually. It will be proven that this specific class of players were not granted the amount of eligibility of the surrounding classes and they should be able to return for one more year. It may take years to sort out, but that's what will happen.

I'm personally rooting for Kiffin because anything that makes OM mad is a positive in my book. Let him sign Aaron Donald.

Crazy that Smoot was held out of the Snow Bowl due to not enough hours completed towards his degree but now is even going to class required? At least Carson Beck was honest that he hadn't taken classes at Miami.

If y'all think anything is going to happen to LSU or Lane Kiffin, you're kidding yourselves. The players will either play or not play, depending on what the most recent court order is, and the SEC and LSU will both abide by that court order until another one supersedes it. And nothing will happen.

Kiffin and the La. Governor are in charge. There are no adults in the room. Their school Admins. are AWOL.

I’m sure you’re right, but I’d like to know if the actual brains at LSU (I assume they have a few) are making their intentions clear to the SEC brass.

Is there as much actual animosity as it appears, or is that just smoke and everybody understands this has to get hashed out in court??

Oh I think the SEC office is p&ssed off at them. But they're not going to do anything if LSU plays the players under a valid court order. And LSU isn't going to play them if there's a valid court order saying they can't. Nobody's going to cancel games and nobody's kicking anybody out of the league. This is just sabre rattling.

I’m loving this.
I want this to get worse. Way worse.

Many of us saw this anarchy coming the moment the NIL box was opened.

I want this insanity to go splat. What does “splat” look like? Dunno. But anything to bring this half-assed-abortion-collegiate-sports cluster to an ignominious end.

I created a thread a week or so ago about the BIG and SEC trying to get a hold of this mess. The SEC won't back down on this case at this point. I believe they have decided since the NCAA is powerless the only way out is to have voluntary members of their conferences agree to abide by the rules of the conference. That is why you seen the published unanimous votes from these conferences. You can abide by the rules and be punished or you can leave and still play football for somebody else. Now there is nothing to sue anyone about. The SEC has already filed a federal case vs LSU just to get that ruling out in the open. They want a ruling that says the SEC can enforce the rules they set forth in their organization.

I'm glad the SEC and BIG are trying to do something because nobody else is. This is the first step. If they win this case, then they can begin setting rules for nil, transfer portal, etc and be able to enforce it. If this doesn't work, the only outcome I see is a total collapse and I don't know what will come out the other side. Y'all remember boxing used to be a huge sport, until it was corrupted and nobody cared anymore.

I think it sucks for the class of '22 that everyone they played with and against in college got 5 years to compete, and they only got 4. I also don't think there is a valid legal basis for them to demand a fifth year.

My hope is these injunctions are all stayed, but at least some of the former players continue to seek monetary damages.

I still don't think Lane is going to play them. He knows better than to cross Sankey and the other 15 schools. He currently as the Governor a
nd AG egging him on, and I think he is loving all of this, but ultimately its not worth the risk.

I have been losing confidence in this position, though.

People say he wants to get back in the NFL but this aint the way. Personally I hope the SEC wins and sets some rules to all this crap so everybody knows whats up. I think these judges should stay out of college sports. Its already a disaster. I agree the same rule should apply for the 22 guys but this late in time common sense says hey, thats the way the cookie crumbles. Who decided not to settle this last January ?

The real ugly is that the South Carolina and Georgia Attorney Generals have filed letters supporting the SEC position. They say that the LSU move will give them a competitive advantage over student athletes at their state’s school. Of course, the Governor of Louisiana says not true. I want Lane to go ahead because the rest of the SEC will eventually crap on him. That he hurt Ole Miss’ little feelings doesn’t bother me. That he is creating more chaos in the league is the issue. I disagree with Patdog. You can get too big for your britches.

Kiffin seems to be on a self destructive
Path. He’s baiting the media and more dirt is being dug up. If he was smart he’d keep his mouth shut and build a top program. The microscope on LSU will be much worse than Oxford.

It would be one thing if Jeff Landry knew ball but he clearly does not understand how college athletics works or probably very much about sports beyond yay go LSU. That's the most irritating thing about Landry, he's LSU's biggest fan but you know damn well he doesn't know what channel the game is on or what time it starts. We all know that person and they suck.

Well the good news for Lane is that if he gets fired at LSU, we know olemiss would take him back in a heartbeat.

This is just what Kiffin does. The question from me is where are the university's officials. Are the just going to watch it burn?
Either way, we all know how this eventually ends.

ESPN just reported during the Missouri game telecast that Baton Rouge judge ruled in favor of LSU. A totally unexpected ruling to us all.********
