Our friends at CERN anticipate minimal seismic activity this Saturday for Johnson County.
If a quake should occur, there is a nonzero chance that it COULD exceed 2.5 on the Richter scale, however.
As always, be prepared.

No word yet on the odds of the Apocalypse occurring between now and kickoff.
Also, we have not received any word regarding Murder Hornet swarms affecting the region.
Any input regarding other natural disasters would be appreciated.

And what, pray tell, is gonna cause this activity on the Richter Scale?

Are Iowa fans gonna hold the world's largest collective fart noise when Iowa trots out Hank Brown as the starting QB?..............

I don't get the "trot out" Hank Brown schtick. We've been told the QB's will rotate in some fashion. What don't you get? Of course HB will "trot out" at some point either he will be first at bat or second at bat but he will most definitely be "trot out". They will "trot out" Heck also. It's very simple they both will be "trot out".

Kaiju forecast is nearly zero. Due to the heat, they are all expected to be in or near the ocean. Rodan remains a wildcard, but is not expected to venture north of Mexico.

9-3-2026 Update:

There is a nonzero chance of a low intensity quake along the Iowa City-Clinton fault line just North of Hills.
While unlikely, it cannot be ignored by alert travellers to Saturday's game.

NGMDB Product Description Page

(Enlarge the image to show that and other regional fault lines, such as the Amana-Plum River-Sabula fault zone.)

Should be an easy one but I’m thinking that spread is too high. I would take Northern Illinois +31.

I know this thread was made in jest, but the more I hear about NIU, the more nervous I get. Their incoming QB had over 3500 passing yards in just 9 games, with 38 TDs and only 2 INTs last year. He's mobile too. Even against lower competition, those are insane numbers. I've just got this sinking feeling about this game, likely due to the inexperience of our team. But this is the kind of player we can't overlook. Corey from The Hawkeye of the Storm has a good summary on NIU.

If the inevitable earthquake happens, what is the evacuation plan for Kinnick Stadium? I would prefer not to trample any women or children on my way to the exits.

VERY commendable!
My advice would be, in that scenario, to stay seated at Kinnick.
That would ensure you wouldn't trample anyone in the AS YET UNDETERMINED earthquake evacuation route.
Basically do as the billionaire John Jacob Astor did by giving up his place in a Titanic lifeboat.
(Your choice though.)

Several days later when Astor's body was fished out of the water he was unrecognizable because a Titanic smokestack had fallen on him. Fortunately they found ID on the body, so that turned out okay.

Kaiju forecast has seen a bit of an uptick with Godzilla seen 10 miles off the coast of Alabama in the Gulf of Mexico, but not likely to make landfall. Kong was spotted in the Pacific Northwest. That situation will be monitored closely for any signs of southwesterly movement.

Rodan remains in Central America. Mothra’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

"Even against LOWER competition"? Boy thats right. Samford, Campbell, Wolford, Furman, The citidel, Chattanooga, VMI, and LOSSES to Mercer, E, Tenn, ELON, and Gardner Webb. They played ONE P4 team early in the year, and lost 42-10 to Wake Forest. I have no idea if Iowa can beat N Illinois by 31 points, but their OL better hold up for their 5'11" 180lb QB to survive that game. We have a habit of knocking out some of these QB's early in the season, and between Merriweather, Eppy, Brown and Campbell I bet we get some pressure on the QB.

As of 845 today, the good folks of CERN assure me that the chances of seismic disturbances affecting Kinnick Stadium today are fairly minimal. Therefore things should be peaceful PROVIDING the Kaiju (or Jormungandr) don't act up.

Any updates on other complicating issues (insect, vermin, plagues, Martians, Lizard People, White Walkers, etc) would be appreciated.

All clear on the kaiju front. Godzilla returned to the sea, and Kong remains in the Pacific Northwest forest. Unless Mothra suddenly appears, we are good to go.
