Hot take. I like the Mission Impossible series. But There is not a single one of those that was better than “The A Team”. That movies should have been a three picture deal easily. Great cast. Great formula. Great direction.

I read a little bit about what happened w the movie vs the book, and that seems to have been a big part - that they condensed years worth of training down into what seemed like a few weeks.

Yeah, the nerds who loved the book hated the movie and it just wasn't well enough known so basically it was a movie made for the nerds who loved the book.

But if you didn't know the book and like light space sci-fi, it was a decent flick.

I really liked Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker series and was hoping we'd get some movies based on those but at the same time glad we didn't because I would have been the first to deride anything departing from the source material.

It would definitely be the same for his Gatekeeper trilogy.

I think his writing style relies on too much non-verbal exposition to easily lend itself to making his books into movies. Too many thoughts that explain everything.

You would either need to do a crappy internal monologue (Lynch's Dune) or make a very long movie in order to externalize the exposition.

If they could do it over again, and seeing how audiences tolerate longer movies now, Ender's Game would be made as either two two hour movies or one three hour flick.
