Colleges couldn't care less about playoff wins and state titles. Most of the elite kids are recruiter more at camps rather than games.
Game film matters as well. State championships and playoff wins don't. Most college coaches think high school coaches can't coach. Just a common opinion of most college coaches. They live in a different world.

If I'm investing millions in a kid, literally a kid, his camp performance and film will intrigue me but his game performance, attitude and desire to win no matter what it takes will close the deal.

High end recruits are so much better then everyone else of the field at the HS level but the ones that can take over and dominate when the stakes are highest tend to be more successful at the next level.

You can't honestly believe that? How do you come up with this stuff?

Everyone looks good in shorts and a tee shirt. A camp might get you on notice, but it's not what gets you a scholarship.

Urban Meyer had a great speech on how he evaluated talent. Said he would always call the kids head coach and ask how the kid was as a teammate, in the weight room, with the underclassman, etc. Said it all mattered.

This all just makes my blood boil. Again, I realize my old school thinking needs to be updated but he's 17 years old, he needs to be out playing and learning and taking hits and being a leader but he's being controlled by the millions I'm assuming is awaiting him in College. He hasn't even taken a NCAA snap yet.....he has zero State rings from his time in IL and never made it past the quarterfinals. He has a lot to learn still. And I know, I know, I need to accept this is the way things will be from now on but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
You don't have to accept it. Just because it's happening doesn't mean it's right. Doesn't mean it's not going to get corrected.

As a high schooler you haven't proven anything.
You haven't done anything.
You haven't won anything.
You haven't accomplished anything.

You are still maturing/growing/developing/etc...

What is going on is creating kids that are completely narcissistic and think the world revolves around them. This isn't creating resilience in kids and developing mental toughness which going to be tested once you arrive at your D1 school and get yelled at for the first time and get blamed for an L for the first.

However, I think this is a small number of kids and not anywhere near the majority.

Give me a kid like Trinidad Chambliss any day of the week. Raised by a football coach. Extremely humble. No scholarships and proved himself at the D2 level before becoming the guy at Ole Miss.

Lastly, I think its bonkers that anyone would give a high school kid millions of dollars. You have no idea what this kid is going to do over the next 3-5 years. The coach who is doing NIL better than anyone (Indiana's Curt Cignetti) goes and get a proven QB in the portal each year and gives him their NIL money. That makes sense.

Giving Urban as a judge of character is certainly a choice.

Coaches like Meyer and Saban got out because of what the game has become, we'll Saban anyway.

Perfect example is Jake Nawrot from Hersey, easily the least talked about of the great QB class from illinois who is going to Kentucky. You think he got all those B1G and SEC offers from scouts looking over his Hersey film against Wheeling? They're a solid but not great program, Nawrot put up great, but not gaudy numbers. It was camps that got him noticed and his offers.

As a previous poster said, college coaches assume all HS coaches are morons so they're not putting that much stock in HS game plans or film, they absolutely watch film but their not basing scholarship decisions mostly on tape anymore. At a camp coaches can see best vs. best and ask to see specific things, like certain throws or better analyze foot work of an OL. Yes, everyone looks good in shorts to us but college coaches can pick apart mechanics and whatnot and see what we can't.

There is no parity in HS football so the 5* DT running over 5'10", 280 pound OL in games all season does nothing for college coaches these days.

Great quote from the guy who recruited Aaron Hernandez and 31 other criminals in a 6 year span at Florida.

Way to miss the point and focus on nothing

I see I was late to the party. You obviously have the smoothest brain in the state and can’t put 2 and 2 together.

The point you unintentionally made is that college coaches don’t actually care about character issues if the dude can ball. They just pay lip service to being all about culture and character so morons like you think they are good guys.

Just win baby.

All True and then they call the High School coach to inquire what kind of person and teammate he is.
