FLO just released their preseason college rankings.

125: Spratley 6th (Lilledahl 1st)
133: Forrest 1st
141: Unranked (Stanich 1st)
149: Vega 1st
157: Robideau 1st
165: Lockett 4th (Duke 1st)
174: Facundo 14th (Mesenbrink 1st)
184: Ryder 8th (McEnelly 1st)
197: Merrill 2nd (Barr 1st)
285: Doucet 1st

Pretty damn good. Four #1 ranked wrestlers to start the year, a #2, #4, #6 (way too low), #8, #14 (seems low), and unranked (won't happen).

I don't have any trouble with these ratings. We have 4 wrestlers rated 1st, Merrill 2nd, Dee rated 4th Troy rated 6th, and Ryder 8th. In the past they have not rated true freshmen, but I see they rated Bassett, but he is going to be very special. I believe a Raney will wrestle 141 and I am looking forward to seeing 1 of them in the starting lineup. I think a Raney will move into the rankings early and keep rising and be rated to be an All American soon. I don't believe Facundo will be our 174 because I expect Norman to take the position. Facundo should not be rated high based on his performance at Nationals, but I don't think he will be our starter. Flow's mistake is missing who will be our starter at several weights. I don't think that Doucet or Ryder will be our starters.

Again, I don't get even close to reading every post on this thing and obviously missed it but how is Swiderski listed as 165 on the roster?

My opinion they plugged in guys for Penn st and Oklahoma st to maximize the points so it better reflected the team race. Davis 141 instead of Ono or Desmond. Facundo over Norman and Doucet being ranked instead of Ross

I don't think Facundo's ranking of 14th is better than what Norman would've gotten in a way that shows up in the team score.

If they're trying to maximize points, they should have put Tagen at 141 instead of no one. Let me stop you before your weight cut comment, Tagen is listed as 141/149 on the latest roster.

Yeah, this is exactly what they did.

Honestly, they can't say things that tip inside info, so they have to!

I was overthinking it. I think they just left Davis, Facundo and Doucet the starters because they were last year and it's August and they've not lost the spot yet

... thus why is Flo so clueless?
He was the starter last year and hasn't lost his spot yet. I believe that's the way they're looking at it now that I have looked at everything again. Instead of making assumptions they're going with the starters from last year. They're not clueless they talk to people daily on staffs

How cool is it to see Konnor "Big Comanche" Doucet ranked #1 at Heavyweight?!? I don't think anyone could have predicted that! And here we are arguing about whether or not he will be the starter. Pretty dang awesome... :giggle:
Heck yes good for him . He's a great insurance policy for Ross

Flo knows that we as well as psu have options at 141 that are AA tier. In the case of a Raney at 141 for us, you cant rank him due to no college matches. Sliding in Tagen or anyone else is just speculation at this point. In some cases the coaches dont even know who will be where yet.

I find it much more intriguing who they have for psu from 157-174. Also the team race is now at 25.5 points between us and them.

I actually want to chop this up some. I listened to CP and Kozak dissect our 10% chance to upset them and It got me all riled up with scenario.

Crazy things happen in March and I think people outside of the hyper-focused OSU fans don't realize what actually happened in Cleveland. We were well within a punchers chance last year.

It really is as simple as if Dee and Facundo have good tourneys, Swiddy upsets Van Ness and one unexpected early misstep by a PSU hammer and we would've won the thing. It really was an eye opener for many.

125 = -4
133 = -2
141 = ? Who goes for both?
149 = -2
157 = 0
165 = ? Does MM go up?
174 = -4 I think Renny surprises, but I also think MM is here.
184 = -8
197 = -12
HWT = -6
*I am saying without two weights, making three uncertain, I think it is that close. Again, I am always going to err in Orange but I don't see 25 points difference.

So, if we have a great (not perfect) tourney, we could poach one! One concussion, one bad match before the semi's, good and bad draws prior to semi's...we are right there. Flo has it as 9/10 to PSU and you really can't fault them for that line of thinking, but damn, with the facts being that PSU can't slip up too much or we take it (assuming we've got no slips) is too compelling not to sell.

Doesnt matter if its Flo or Wrestlestat or Crystal ball, it boils down to what I said in my thread about making up the points. We need to ball out at 41, 65, 74, 84 & 285. We need that DT factor at each of those weights.

We should definitely score more points at 165 and 174. However, we will likely lose points at 141 but that may be offset by the gain at 149 with Vega moving up. 285 I would put at a push right now. 184 I have no idea. It's such a tough weight. We could have a damn good wrestler there and not All-American. Between Berge and Ryder hopefully we can improve on 7th but I think that's probably 5th'ish?

The DT factor could get us a Natty at 285, finalist at 165, and high All-Americans at 141 and 174.

The good thing is outside of couple of guys 141 is not scary at all (at least going into the season). We could still score a lot of points there.

Just saw Jayden James is going to redshirt at Penn State this year. So that likely means Kasak at 157, PJ Duke at 165, and Mesinbrink at 174. Which I think is really good for us. Can Lockett beat Duke? Certainly a better chance than Mesinbrink. I now think 165 is wide open.

We COULD win 125, 133, 149, 157, 165, 197, and 285.

You're so right. After being one of the toughest weight classes last year, 141 doesn't look all that bad this year. It will be interesting to see if any of the 133 Hammers moves up because there is a crazy logjam of talent there. I assume Ono will be at 141.

I think it will be Blaze but that's just my opinion. Jax could also go 141 . 133 would be Davino Seidel Crookham Ono 141 Jax Stanich Bassett Blaze and maybe Mendez he's listed on the roster Ohio St posted for 2026-27 🤷

Absolute insanity. How tall is Jax? He looks taller than most of the other 133lbers. The only one I would really want to avoid is Bassett. But damn they're all so good. It will be interesting to see Jax vs Blaze in folkstyle. It's going to be a really fun year for the fans.

141/149 will be some combo of Vega/ Jamison imo. May not see one of them at 141 til 2nd semester. Also I think Duke will be a strong favorite at 165 if we're being realistic. We know Dee is capable but we need to see it happen in March.We know where we need some serious points and I think we get them. Regardless it all makes for an exciting race! 🤠

Shouldn't Jax be able to "big brother" Bassett? If not maybe Chase will teach him the "shin kick." :oops:

I doubt anybody "big brother's" Bassett. But, Jax's style could give him some fits.

I'm not kicking him in the shins, not even as an instructor.

I am thinking one of the Raney's may be at 141 or 133. These guys are top recruits and very good wrestlers. Earlier the thought was the smaller Raney at 133 and Jax up to 141. We have plenty of talent and should have an AA at every weight.
I agree with this. The new talent just seems to be light years better. I will be very surprised if Jamison can A) make 141 and B) beat out a Raney Brother for that spot. I think Jax will make the move to 141 next year. And that is when we are going to have a Raney Brother problem.

And sorry for asking this question for the 37th time but with the new 5 in 5 rule - Jax, Landon, Sergio, and Dee all have four more years to compete in the NCAA tournament, correct? If so, that's nuts.
