It absolutely does not. Its pretty much final 4 or bust this year. Maybe Elite 8 if you lose close.
Or maybe you get to the semi finals of the SEC tournanent and finish top 4 of the conference. Cant lose first weekend of the ncaa tournament though.

There is no actual basis for the rule. If folks remember, a long time ago they forced intraconference to sit out a year. Then they revised it to more align with the NCAA’s rules but moved their football date up earlier than the NCAA for competitive reasons(playbooks and junk like that). Then they revised it to just completely follow the NCAA’s rule.

14.5.5.1 Transferring within the Southeastern Conference. A transfer student, including a graduate transfer, from a member institution may be eligible for intercollegiate competition during the individual’s initial academic year in residence at another member institution provided the student provides written notification of transfer to the institution within their
sport’s regular NCAA transfer window immediately following the sport’s championship segment (see, NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3.1) [Revised: 6/2/00; effective 8/1/2001; Revised: 6/1/08; Revised 6/3/21, effective 10/1/21, Revised: 6/2/23,effective 10/1/23]

UK, Mitchell, his lawyers, etc have known about this the whole time. Sankey even publicly came out about this before Mitchell even entered the portal. Yet he still decided to commit to UK. All these parties aren’t idiots. He may or may not win his case, but that’ll still be what determines whether he plays at UK. Not this rule imo.

Judge Edwards evidently initially bought that these players were consumers under the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act. I get they are consumers under of higher ed. I do not buy that they are consumers for the purposes of eligibility for athletics. When their eligibility expired, they became just like any other person with regard to the NCAA. Then, the NCAA changed the rules for ELIGIBLE players and offered no grandfather clause

Under the new rule the five-year clock begins during the academic year you turn 19 or when you first enroll full-time in college, whichever happens first. Under the old rule, if I enrolled at age 28 for the first time, I would have eligibility. As I understand it, I would not be eligible under the new rule, because of my age (if a LeBron James existed who never played ball, he might be able to claim age discrimination, but I digress). So, under Edwards’ accepted interpretation am I a consumer who can seek legal redress?

The rule that is keeping Mitchell from being being eligible at UK is the intra conference transfer rule . The way I understand it , that only applies to teams in the SEC .
Has the acc and big 10 agreed to not take “ghost transfers” from the sec ?

People are upset, this is yet another bad look for us. I have yet to see so many locks here, even guys we had signed and in class just up and leave to not commit like we have under Pope. It is concerning. This was a huge loss whether we would have had an uphill battle or not. Seems like we are one of the few schools who won’t fight. I know it was Mitchell’s decision but you would have to think these discussion were held prior to this decision.
