Here is a game that has got my interest. Mallard Creek will be at Maury ( Norfolk VA) Looks like Maury went 14-1 last year in 5A and won the state championship title. Any thoughts on this one. What is the history of Maury High.

2021–2022: Maury reaches the state finals in consecutive seasons, losing a heartbreaker in 2021 and falling to Highland Springs in 2022.

Maury has had alot of success over the last 5 or 6 years but to the best of my knowledge they are 0-3 against North Carolina teams in that span, losing back to back seasons against New Bern and last year at Cardinal Gibbons. I hope Mallard Creek can make them 0-4. Note though that all 3 games were very close and decided by a TD or less. I just hope the MC offense will show up, they seem to have a hard time scoring but put up alot of points last week. MC beat Warwick, VA last year 3-0.
I can add from my time in the Navy there (83-95) with a 2 year period absent Maury was known more for basketball in that time and were well respected producing Cornel Parker who played at UVA and Joe Smith who played at Maryland and was the number 1 pick in the NBA draft in 95 if Im not mistaken. But all and all in football the region was loaded as a whole but none of the Norfolk schools seemed to stress football at all as a whole. Lake Taylor was decent thats about it. All the Norfolk schools seemed content to be so so in football. I never recall any of them making any splash at all, certainly nowhere near as good as current day Maury. More talent and better teams came from VA Beach, Chesapeake, occasionally Wilson from Portsmouth led by QB Aaron Sparrow, and the Peninsula schools Hampton, Bethel etc. Norfolk was really a non factor in High School football.

They had plenty of athletes when we played them and were a hard out. I'm sure that's still the case now. We were extremely fortunate to beat them the first time at home but also should've beaten them by much more the year after over in VA. Should be a good game.

MC beats Maury 31 to 30 final score according to scorestream. Could not reconnect with my friend at the game for verification but its final according to scorestream. Maury is now 0-4 against North Carolina teams despite all their recent success in Virginia.
From what I read in Charlotte newspaper Maury was stopped on the final drive around the Mallard Creek 10 yard line. They needed only a FG to win but must not have any confidence at all in their kicker, because they scored 3 TDs with successful 2 point conversions for 24 points. On their last TD, they either failed on a 2 point conversion or tried to kick it and missed. Its obvious they have no kicker at all.
When I was the HC at Rolesville some clown said we should play Maury and said we were ducking competition. That year New Bern Beat Maury and that same year we put 70 on New Bern. VA<NC
New Bern had no business winning that game against Maury. In the playoff game against you guys, let's be honest, neither team could stop a nose bleed but New Bern killed themselves with the turnovers en route to putting up 50. New Bern returned the favor with 70 the year after. Maury has lost to NC each time but damn if each game wasn't a classic.
Both defenses were suspect true. Turnovers did help Rolesville and yes next year was a payback.
Do coaches have a habit of referring to people with opinions as clowns?
