His dad ain’t happy he ran the ball 20x in week 1.

“We cannot do that,” J.R. Taylor reportedly told Sipple on Saturday. “Nebraska has even called and said, ‘We are going to make a call (to Millard South’s staff).'”

Sounds like a peach

Insane. After the famous "which hat" commitment video where they played the "just kidding" role went viral they are giving social media world another round to fire.

Nebraska Coaches would never call a high school and tell them to change their game plan and limit the risk for injury. Any HS Coach would tell them to go scratch and deservingly so....no Coach would do that and I really don't have to get into why too much.

If there is any truth to this I'm guessing the Dad conjured it up to put a scare into the coaches, because there is likely a clause in his NIL that if he gets hurt they obviously don't have to pay him. You guys are the one that made the switch, live with it.

With the kid moving from Chicago to Nebraska, while being committed to Nebraska, it would not surprise me if the Nebraska coaching staff discussed this with his hs staff.

Just watched the highlights and he had two
designed runs with one of them being a QB sneak on the one yard line. 🤨

The rest was him taking off and running

Unfortunately with NIL deals, the kid can just not play his senior year and be fine. The High school world we use to know, doesn’t exist anymore. I don’t see him finishing the season if the coach doesn’t adjust. Without him, the team isn’t good at all.

If that's the Dads wish to pull him then that's his right (I guess) but if I'm a Coach then I'm not changing my game plan because his father tells me too or even if the College coach calls and tells me too. This is his occupation and how he makes a living, his Dad or Matt Ruhle don't pay his bills....

I'm not saying your wrong in your assessment, but I just can't wrap my head around how much things have changed. Can you imagine Coach Lynch or Sunkett reaction if they got a call from a college coach saying ease up on a player....he's not your player yet, he's mine and I got a job to do 😀

Exactly. Throw the ball away and live for the next play. Or run and take a hit. Amazing that the dad can’t understand the concept.

Not sure what the issue is here. When the kid up and moved to Nebraska he was saying the Huskers were his team, not wherever he went to high school. All decisions should be viewed through that filter.

I'm old school so I follow what you are saying and 10 years ago this would happen publicly.

My point is it has happened behind closed doors already. A certain school is involved with what happens next with a kid on ESL team now. It is what it is. That QB kid IS/ OR WILL make 10 times that coaches salary in a couple of months. His little job isn't a concern of theirs and he (the coach) signed up for it when he allowed the kid to transfer and started him right away.

4 and 5 stars come attitude, money and problems. The next 5 years will look very different for high school football.

I honestly supported College players receiving something on top of their monthly stipend and full tuition/room and board but I never envisioned it becoming this out of control. I thought like 25k per year or in that range. Not millions....I'd jokingly say you can pay your own tuition now, we'll give this to a student who really needs it 😂

Garbage

What are we talking about??? We're gonna think that a 16yr kid can transfer into a top program in the country and his dad is going to be able to dictate to the head coach what plays to run? The coach went 14-0 last year and developed the previous QB who's at Bama.

Head coaches job is little and not a concern to the dad/kid? Absolute trash comment.

This is setting kids up for disaster. The head coach is building (amongst other things) resilience and mental toughness for what lies ahead so the kid is trained and ready for when the stakes are high. Having your dad step in and making things all about the kid only hurts the kid in the long run.

Just because you are a 5star QB doesn't mean squat. There are plenty of 5 stars who never even won the job in college. Kids need to developed mental toughness every bit as much as their physical skills. That's what going to determine if they are successful at the next level or not.

Hes not defending the kids/dads actions. Its just the reality of what HS sports are now. And have been for the last few years if you are a 5* type recruit.

1. It’s a new coach so you should probably pipe down on your thoughts.

2. if he want the kid to play he will adjust or lose him. It’s up to the Coach which ever he chooses.

3. regardless of how you feel about it, there is a reality that exist. Luckily for you as a supporter you having witnessed it yet.

4. Have you ever received a million dollars at 17 before you even get to college? Yeah, that’s the new reality for some.

You can call it trash all you want but here we are. Let’s watch it play out.

You must not follow it very closely then. Do all hs recruits have this much drama no. But I bet theres 1 or 2, especially in larger recruiting classes like football, that have similar levels of drama, or parental involvement every year.

Take out an insurance policy or opt out of your senior year of high school. The dad made the decision to move and go to that school if he is unhappy, he should have his son quit.
The HS coach also decided to get entangled with whatever the son and dad had going on. Along with the obvious ties the move has to the Nebraska coaching staff.

A school of that caliber, I would assume the coach was very clear about his expectations on how the program is run...and that no one is above the team. If you're on board with that - we'd love to have you.

Nebraska coaching staff keeps getting brought up...the high school coach really has the leverage here. I assume the HS and Nebraska have a great relationship but its Millard who has what Nebraska wants. Nebraska doesn't want to burn that bridge which calling Millard and saying not to run our QB recruit anymore would potentially do.

1 or 2 in every college programs recruiting class? Not from the programs I was apart of. Coaches specifically weed out those kids/parents as they don't want to deal with it.

  1. Not a new coach bud. it's his 2nd year and before that he was the QB coach.
  2. No, its up to the kid/dad. If you want to be apart of this team, this is how we play. Up to you if you want to play. Team > individual. A program like Millard South ain't risking their culture for a transfer QB and his drama
  3. ?
  4. All the reason to make sure kids are grounded and their foundation is built.

Coaches aren't weeding out 5* kids because their parents might be difficult. That's just insanely naive. Theres been many "public" rants just from the parents of kids playing at UI who weren't happy. And most of this stuff coaches deal with from parents never reaches message boards or social media.

And everyone always seems to give a pass to the HC who brought the kid in and absolve him of everything. But I'd be willing to bet, like in many of these cases, promises were made to the kid and parent by the coach to get him there.

The HS absolutely does not have the leverage. The kid is already worth an ungodly amount of money and more than his HS coach makes so Nebraska is gonna get what Nebraska wants. If not they could influence dad/son to sit the rest of the season. He's already got his NIL and scholarship, what's his motivation to play the rest of the year? Beyond this, if the Millard coach gets labeled as difficult to work with then Nebraska staff will advise the next 5* that wants to transfer to go to another Nebraska HS.

Glad I don’t live in your world.

Millard had 10 kids sign D1 last year. 5 went to power 5. Nebraska got none. Again, over the past 10 years, they have had (3) kids go to Nebraska. They all walked on and only 1 stayed and graduated. He played only on special teams.

Millard doesn’t need or apparently care to send any kids to Nebraska.

You think Illinois, NW or Notre Dame is gonna tell Lynch or Zvonar to take a transfer and
dictate how to use him? Negative that.

I wish I were as naive as you to think that with teenagers being worth millions that their college coaches aren't keeping a close eye on what they do in HS and staying in communication. These top level recruits are no longer just players, they're investments and are being treated as such. Not saying I like the way things are now, but that's how it is and will likely get worse going forward.

Agree, from my point of view it's a bad look for Dad to be airing it out publicly. But that is the age we live in, parents of professional athletes do it.
Maybe it's because I don't make millions, but man, money ruins everything these days it seems.

Yes. 100%. If a HS coach agrees to take a transfer from an out of state kid who just saw happens to be committed to your flagship in state university, they are going to be in alignment with those college coaches. Unless you think it was pure coincidence the Nebraska committ transferred to the #1 hs in the state thats 45min from campus. These HS coaches know exactly what they signed up for.

I disagree the high school has all the leverage. The Taylor kid is risking being labeled a problem and that will stick with him. Any problem at Nebraska or bad performances and fans will instantly turn on him and make his life miserable. The high school always be viewed in the better light since he is just rental player that came into an established program and demanded what was best for him not the team.

This all just makes my blood boil. Again, I realize my old school thinking needs to be updated but he's 17 years old, he needs to be out playing and learning and taking hits and being a leader but he's being controlled by the millions I'm assuming is awaiting him in College. He hasn't even taken a NCAA snap yet.....he has zero State rings from his time in IL and never made it past the quarterfinals. He has a lot to learn still. And I know, I know, I need to accept this is the way things will be from now on but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

When Jonas left The Brook I was still glad to see the kid grow and prosper. That said QBs get too much blame and too much credit for W's and L's. Every single week half the players lose. Only a small percentage get to make millions.
