Tiger Woods' life has become pretty sad the last 15-20 years, but it's impossible to overstate how next level he was in his prime. Golf is supposed to be a game of fine margins, but Tiger Woods blew that idea out of the water.

Some perspective on that: Scottie Scheffler has been a clear #1 for quite a while now. He has 21 career PGA tour wins. Tiger has 82 and had over 21 by the time he turned 25.

Tiger is the reason Scottie is now number one. His play inspired greatness and the value of tournaments now.

You can basically say that about each preceding era. Tiger was awesome during his prime but he never caught up to Nicklaus's accomplishments as far as I'm concerned though the choice is a bit subjective either way.

Tiger was better and that’s coming from Jack himself. That’s all I need. You are forever that either argument is fine. They are both GOATs. I think without injuries Tiger destroys every record ever. Tiger made the game blow up globally, yes Jack, Arnie, Gary all made the PGA Tour what it is. Tiger brought a level of excitement and global growth never seen to the game. That’s why the purses grew so high.

Boring? He’s playing golf what exactly do you want him to do
The only time he shows any emotion is when he’s throwing a tantrum and blaming his caddie. I’drather watch a fence post for 4 hours, but to each their own.

Tiger, in his prime, was the best player ever. He had one of the most sudden and monumental collapses of all time, that was sadly all self inflicted. Had he had a normal length career he would’ve shattered every record there was.

Scheffler at age 30

-22 wins

*Tiger at age 30

-46 wins

Scheffler at age 30

-4 major wins

*Tiger at age 30

-10 major wins

At age 30, if the amounts paid out were the same for Tiger as they are on tour these days, Tiger would have made $140 million more dollars than Scheffler.

That again is debatable. Bobby Jones has a pretty good argument as well if you are talking about a shorter period prime. Jones won 13 of the 31 majors (including 13 wins out of 21 attempts with 20 top 10's starting with his U.S. Open victory in 1923 through 1930) he played in while finishing top ten 27 times before retiring at 28 years old. He is also the only guy to win all four majors in the same year and then retired after that season. Jones only played a part time schedule and competed as an amateur his entire career.

A lot of Tiger's problems were of a self destructive nature but the swing that made him so great was just never going to allow him to last long term physically imo. He was without a doubt an all time great and right at the top for many reasons but I just wouldn't put him at number one personally.
