Let's hope Deacon Petras is ready to go - just in case.Hank Hecklinski is my guess.
Hank has not proven himself on the field at Iowa or Auburn. Each opportunity he has had to do that he has not done well. The problem is recency bias, what he as done people remember fondly, and it will be very hard to get that monkey off his back…Well, that's pretty damn sad if Iowa "fans" booed a guy who's never started a game at Iowa. Lester evidently thinks he's capable. People forget he came off the bench COLD, and had to make a play right out of the chute and he failed. It happens. It shouldn't define his career, unless thats what the rest of it looks like.
There aren’t gonna be any boos. JFCIf the competition really is dead even, I hope that the coaching staff has the sense to start Heck Game1. If Hank trots out for the first series, there are going to be boos. I know the coaches don’t care what fans think for the most part, but the season can’t start like that. The fans would be much more likely to warm up to Hank if he comes in off the bench.
Didn't realize you hadn't been to a live sporting event before. Yeah, it happens, even in Kinnick. I'm hoping that Hecklinski is the starting QB so we don't have to find out, but if Hank trots out there, I expect there will be at least a spattering of boos. Not from me, and I don't support it, but this is big-boy and big-$ football, and fans are becoming more and more likely to express their displeasure, and right now Heck is the fan favorite. There aren’t gonna be any boos. I think some groans maybe or something along those lines. I don’t expect boos. But whatever response he gets will be short lived with the anticipation and excitement among fans for the first snap of the season. Heck I feel like would be get nice applause on the other hand with lot more positive vibes.Didn't realize you hadn't been to a live sporting event before. Yeah, it happens, even in Kinnick. i am hearing that rhule is buying all the tickets he can to the iowa opener and sending ne fans to kinnick specifically to boo hank. depending on how hank is wired iowa could be down a qb in short orderI think some groans maybe or something along those lines. That's not quite accurate. At Auburn Hank played well in three of his four opportunities, including one start where he went 17-25 for 235 yards and 4 TDs. Unfortunately for him, he struggled in his second start, which was the last time he saw the field for the Tigers. Hank also played well for Iowa against UMass (5-7 for 55 yards and a TD).Hank has not proven himself on the field at Iowa or Auburn. Each opportunity he has had to do that he has not done well. I’ll just add that for all the talk we hear about Hank being the “consistent” one, who should be considered “the safe choice,” he’s sure had a lot of ups and downs in the times he’s played, with plenty of mistakes. That's not quite accurate. Your point about recency bias, though, is spot on. We don't see practice and all people remember are the Indiana game and the Kids Day scrimmage. For that reason, @MeetTheFerentzes is right that Heck should get the start. Plus, Heck ascended to QB2 last year behind Gronowski. If the best Hank has done is pull even, then he hasn't passed Heck to be QB1. My only caveat would be if Hank kicked a$$ this past week in practice and clearly took the lead.
I agree as I never booed a hawk in 65 years of watching them. Young guys playing a tough game and it is hard. mistakes happen and sometimes things do not work well. Why, in the name of God would any real Iowa fan boo, the guy picked by the coaches, and supported by his team mates before hes' EVER started a game at Iowa? Really? And that would be okay? And we think its just everything about the game that's screwed up.
Well it sounds like you were booing a coach and the head coach for having BRian be the OC. The coaches are fair game as they make big dollarsI’m usually very anti-booing for lots of reasons including the reasons you listed. It also comes across as very immature and entitled. However, I wasn’t against booing during the latter stages of the Brian days as it was a protest for change imo. And I do believe that contributed to his termination. The alternative is to not show up to the game at all…
you cheer the hero, you boo the villain...I agree as I never booed a hawk in 65 years of watching them. Young guys playing a tough game and it is hard. mistakes happen and sometimes things do not work well.
I would boo any player even a hawk if they were a dirty player. by the way I have booed the refs in kinnick
There you go with a slap to the players. Yeah Deacon was bad but Petras was good enough when he had an above avg Oline and good running game to protect him and mask his slowness.Let's hope Deacon Petras is ready to go - just in case.
