That's really not in their game plan apparently. 30 runs on 33 plays so far--but this is good coaching--let Beau do what he does best which isn't reading a defense from the pocket
Welp he has thrown for 2 TDs so he can't be horrible reading from the pocket

Dang, that’s some nice play calling there. Lovely football.
Imagine that: Beau with actual, real authentic QB coaches and offensive minds.... Almost as if he never had that before... which...he didn't 😂.

Meanwhile, King Mack gonna be King Mack, which NC State is finding out today like Alabama and Penn State found out 😂

It's way too early, but I am looking forward to Beau sticking it to big Game James the choker this November

Did you watch either play? This is great coaching and what all coaches should do--he's putting Beau in a position to be successful
He's not running an offense where he has to think at all.

Going forward, can we try to be all #subjectlinesmatter with Official Generic CFB Games Thread. Thanks. (Yes, do feel free to mock me about my obsession, I can take it.)

Anthony Ivey just made a nice catch over the middle for San Jose State. Granted it's vs USC's backups, but good for him.

Now, off to the gym! I have already taken in 1.5 soccer matches today. Even though I walked three miles this morning 6-7 hours in front of the tv is not gonna work for me. Later.
Keep up the good work and never stop walking. Just back from a 6 day cruise, too much bourbon. Back to walking. and football. Stay strong.

So this is Mack’s fourth different team in as many seasons; what a joke. He has just three more months until fun time is over and he has to enter the real world and get on with his life’s work.

I have watched the whole game. It's a great scheme and all good QBs have good schemes and play calling. 9/11 for 155 yards and 2 TDs and over a 100 yards rushing solid day all around. Running game set up play action. Virginia is going to be a decent team this year if they can run the ball successfully

What does this have to do with my comment about their play calling is great because they're not forcing him to read a defense or think?
They've done a great job keeping everything simple and letting Beau do what he does best--run the ball and make predetermined throws.
He's been great today because the coaching staff isn't asking him to be a legit QB--just not screw up. They won 10 games last year and played in the ACCCG game--they're going to be good with or without him because Elliott's a smart, young coach that will leave for a bigger role sooner than later.
I don't understand how you turned "they aren't making him read defenses" (which I thought we all accepted as reality) into they can't win with him. They can win doing what they did today. Pound the ball--keep things simple.
The question is will Beau's body hold up

I wasn't impressed w/ the Harvard QB transfer for TCU. Beau looked good, but he'll be hurt by week 6.

I saw FSU was giving 31 points to NMSU. I'm not sure FSU is 31 points better than IUP.

That is spot on... As good as he looked today they really relied on his running. Not sure he can hold up a whole season and take all those hits. Decent size but not that big to take a lot of hits for a whole season

Do you trust Beau’s arm on 3rd and 7?
If you can’t then Pribula shouldn’t be QB1 at UVa. I would at least have tried a rollout, make a five yard pass and hope the YAC would be enough. Pribula was 9-11 yesterday, surely he could be trusted to attempt a pass on 3rd and 7. A few posters pointed out that the overall play calling for UVa yesterday was superb; maybe it was just a way to set up the defense. UVa’s first drive in the 2nd half was three passes, three completions, 70+ yards (?), a touchdown. As I said at the time, perhaps the run on third and 7 was just Virginia wanting to guarantee their getting a field goal.

It would be interesting to see how many of his passes came on third and long.

FWIW, UVa was 3-14 on third downs, 4-4 on fourth downs.

3rd and 7 does not lend itself to a one read QB with questionable arm strength. When the first read isn’t there, the next choice is run. The designed run matches his skill set on 3rd and 7.

Pribula is a one-read qb but he has a strong enough arm, he showed zip on Saturday, fairly good accuracy too. This play we’re talking about wasn’t a “run if the first read isn’t there,” it was a run from the get-go, had no chance of succeeding, lost a yard, which is why I mentioned it.

UVA head coach, paraphrased: “We can’t have Pribula carrying the ball 15 times a game every game.” It will be an interesting year for Beau and Virginia.

Yep, I get the designed run. If he would stay healthy and play all games what do you think the O/U on interceptions is this year if he is given passing plays on 3rd down?

I realize it’s a silly hypothetical but there’s no way they are gonna let him sling it that much on 3rd and long being a 1 read guy because the 2nd read ain’t gonna be good.

Still up in the air about how they’re going to deal with third downs. The more I think about it the more I see a “NCSU is not going to beat us if we don't turn the ball over” mindset from the UVa coaching staff. Let’s continue this discussion when UVa plays, say, Florida State.
