Based on your feedback, the computer has spoken. North Carolina has now taken the mantle for 1998.Right off the bat, statistically there is no way we were the best team in 98. Despite what our stupidest fans say, tubby coached that group up and willed that team to a title. Duke and North Carolina were both on paper much better than we were.

After another audit, 1997 goes to KansasWasn't Kansas considered the overwhelming favorite in 97 as well?
My feedback is that ai slop is useless and with opaque methodology there's no discussion to be had.Revising the original post after multiple audits.
Please give constructive feedback and prepare to argue your case.

Good point. Duke had 0.53 advantage in SRS but that’s not enough to overcome Kansas’s body of work. I’ll revise with Kansas as the best team in 2010.Wasn't Kansas the favorite n 2010? Not sure how Duke ranks as best team; they weren't.
North Carolina has the better body of work compared to Kentucky in ‘84Several of these are wrong. North Carolina was not the best team in 1984, Michael Jordan be damned. Kentucky was the best team in 1984.
That is precisely where the idea came from actually. I did some research of programs from 1893-1938 and it spawned more intrigue about teams in the early NCAAT era where both the NIT and NCAAT both held prestige. One thing led to another and then I’m here lolSo basically this is modern day Helm's titles.
The margin was close in 1993. North Carolina wasn’t an obvious favorite. Its August 29th. Other than that boring as hell unc vs tcu game bot much going on.
I like this thread.
For 93 unc was good but I think both Michigan and UK were close to them too. If brown doesnt get hurt and UK beats Michigan would uk have been favored against unc?
Sitting through the Georgetown game was just awful. I remember my dad commenting that Georgetown had a guy that was 23 or 24 years old and he couldn't stand it. My poor dad would be losing his mind these days with all the older guys being eligible lol.Several of these are wrong. North Carolina was not the best team in 1984, Michael Jordan be damned. Georgetown, another program that shows how quickly things can fade with bad coaching decisions. They were the cool brand in the 90s with Ewing, Twin Towers and Iverson. Thompson steps down, now they're a puddle of mud. The Ewing coaching hire (player alumnus) sunk them. Lesson learned there.Sitting through the Georgetown game was just awful. UConn having the best team in only 3 of it's 6 is the crazy outlier. It'd go as far as saying the 99 team was right up there with Duke. The other two are the luckiest runs ever.
Duke would have 7 instead of 5 based on this, so I'm ok with how it's all landed. The Beef YouTube team have a great doc on this, top 5 teams not to win a title. Was Duke 99 #1. Then it was a combo of UNLV 1992, UK 2015, Zags 2021 and Duke 2025.
You were correct. It didn’t account for Kendall Gill and other injuries. Illinois takes the place of Michigan for 1989. Thank youIt’s been almost 40 years, but just going off of memory I would say Illinois was the best team in 1989. They beat Michigan twice in the regular season before losing to them in the Final 4.
I would have had Virginia in 2019 and Gonzaga in 2017. That 2017 UNC team in particular was a pretty weak champion. 7 losses. Lots of close games and numerous questionable calls in their favor in the tournament.
SRS probably hurts Gonzaga a lot and I get that, but they were dominant and had multiple future pros on that team.
Unc beat Gonzaga n 2017. I think that trumps all your other points
I had these audited again using your comment.I would have had Virginia in 2019 and Gonzaga in 2017. That 2017 UNC team in particular was a pretty weak champion. 7 losses. Lots of close games and numerous questionable calls in their favor in the tournament.

It doesn’t really. I can think of an infinite number of games in which a better team loses to a worse team.
Yeah, 2 losses and one was with Hamilton out I believe. They were clearly 1B.Yeah 99 uconn was like 37 and 2? Pretty dominant.
2011 and 2014 were lucky. To be fair our 2011 and 2014 runs were lucky as well. We just had our luck run out against uconn both times and it blows.
1988 TempleNorth Carolina has the better body of work compared to Kentucky in ‘84
They had a higher SRS, better record (28-3), higher AP ranking (#1). North Carolina started 17-0 before Kenny Smith injury. Kentucky closed the season stronger but I think North Carolina has the edge there, even though Kentucky has a good case. Conference tournament and NCAA tournament accomplishments favor UK, but UNC I think has the better total argument.
I would love to hear some other errors you’re seeing though.
