But would Morris be a step up from NV?
Is Morris better than NV? In general yes and would a one off game be terrible? No. I got the feeling that this was going in more towards a deeper match say like in the same conference etc. That's the big issue I have with the original suggestion.

SouthWest Prairie week 1 Games
East

Stagg
@ Romeoville - Last year Romeoville (4-5) eeked out a 1 point win against an 0-9 Stagg. Over the offseason the Spartans suffered substantial losses due to transfer. I am taking Stagg to exact a measure of revenge and win by at least 1 score.

Aurora (East) @ Plainfield C - PC was 2-7 last season with wins over teams that were a combined 1-17. East Aurora on the other hand was 2-7 with wins over teams who were a combined 0-18 with one of the wins being a forfeit. While PC played the tougher schedule, neither school was all that competitive. I'll give the nod to Plainfield for putting up similar numbers against a tougher schedule

Plainfield S @ Pekin - Pekin (5-5) won this matchup 28-7 last season with PS (4-5). Pekin plays such a wide range of opponents it's hard to get a read. PS has a highly regarded QB whose name slips me, but he is supposed to be the Truth. PS needed this win last season and didn't get it. I'll take Pekin

Argo @ Plainfield E - Plainfield E seems to be on an upswing with their new coach and RB Croom coming off of a 6A playoff appearance and loss to ESL, even being poached by MC for their QB talent. Argo is Argo, but at least they still have a team. PE put up 55 points in last year's tilt. I expect more of the same. PE for the win.

Joliet C @ Thornridge - T'ridge (0-9) has fallen on hard times with their enrollment as they are now in the 800's and took some lumps last season. However, they were competitive in 3 games with Joliet C (1-8) being one of them as the Steelmen escaped with a 1 point win. Joliet C's struggles have been well documented and they are still trying to find some footing. With an enormous advantage in size I give the slight edge to Joliet as they try to increase their win total from a year ago, to do so this is a must win.

West

Homewood-Flossmoor @ Bolingbrook - Last season HF (6-5) took this matchup with a couple late TDs aided by numerous special teams blunders and untimely turnovers, The Brook however returned to form amassing over 500 yards of offense in the loss. The Vikings return a ton of talent despite a major transfer and are in year two of Coach McAllister who made Chicago Phillips into a powerhouse championship program. The Brook also returns 17-18 starters from last season along with at least 1 major transfer in. The school that had Alec Anderson as an AD and Tony Smith as girls hoops coach will win.

The Nook @ St. Charles N - Last year The Nook (6-4) said SCN (10-2) was who they thought they were, but let the North Stars off the hook in a 1 point loss to the 7A powerhouse. I haven't really seen much about either this summer, but both programs are consistent. I'll give the edge to a revenge minded The Nook. Also The Nook may have the best uniforms in the conference, I saw some snazzy get ups in their media day pics.

Neuqua Valley @ Oswego - A couple years prior to COVID NV (3-6) went toe to toe with ESL in South Naperville in a 2 point loss. Eight years later NV is attempting to find their footing and stabalize. Oswego is at the other end of the spectrum coming off of an 8A championship game appearance and returning 15 starters; the Panthers have championship goals. Those goals will not be inconvenienced by NV. Oswego runs away with this one.

Lake Park @ Plainfield N - Both teams had rough seasons last year with PN going 2-7 and LP 3-6. PN battled injuries early last season to become competitive in conference except for a shellacking by Oswego in a meaningless week 9 game. I look for PN to be improved with the addition of kids from their lower levels. Not sure what Lake Park has. I've been high on PN all offseason, no reason to stop now.

Non-conference crossover

Joliet W @ Oswego E - Last season was supposed to be JW's (4-5) time to dominate the East, but they ended up dropping a conference game and missing out on the playoffs due to scheduling 2 non-conference games against the West division in addition to the 2 mandatory crossovers. Oswego E won the matchup 41-0 last season, but lost a lot to graduation. Joliet W has some quality returning and should be able to narrow the gap some in this week 1 game, but Oswego E continues the West's domination.

Didnt get a chance to look at this week's games as I was out of town till Thursday.

Went to Liberty-biberty-ville @ Naperville N last night. Good entertaining game that went into OT. Brock Williams is impressive, also like their QB and play calling when they get in a rhythm. North looked more solid at more positions. After seeing the points Geneva put up against Oswego it makes Libertyville's defense look more solid.

As for my Huskies good playmaker at QB, RBs ran hard, apparently have some injuries at DB but still were able to hold their own. DL was good against the run. And we were able to pull out a W in OT 21-14.

Oswego's D needs to tighten it up (and they usually do with a defensive minded head coach), but the offense is rolling.

How do people feel about Naperville N @ Barrington? Huskies took a substantial L to what looks to be an up NT. Barrington has two competive Ls against LWC and Lyons.

Oddly Massey has them ranked #53 and #54, but a 14 point difference in the game. I think the Huskies keep it closer than that.

Barrington is down from the past few years, at least in what I've watched so far. They are missing the explosiveness in the passing game

I don't think I saw any Barrington games last year, but was completely shocked how the playoff loss turned out. Should be a competitive game for NN. Hoping we can pull out the W as the NC game looks like it could be a tough one next week.

I hope they do, that's my other conference now :) and sadly I won't be at the Hersey/NV game. Hersey doesn't have a sophomore team. Instead, I'm hoping to see a beat down of Plainfield North.

I think the PN sophs beat everyone to death as freshmen last year.

PN Freshman are always good. My son's freshman year, I think they (PN) came in without a loss in 5-6 seasons.

I'm not sure who won the Oswego/PN freshman game last year, but OHS freshman have gone 9-0 consistently over the past 10 seasons.

Oswego won last year 20-14. Oswego's sophs are big, the QB is good and the RB is really good.

That being said, I'm rolling in there shortly after the last Senior is announced for Senior night :).

Week 4 matchups

East

Plainfield C (1-2) @ Romeoville (0-3) - a year ago Romeoville was 3-0 (including a win over Central) at this point on the way to a 4-5 record and in the hunt for a conference title, playoff birth, and had scored 79 points in the 1st 3 games. This year they have scored a total of 15 points in their 3 losses. This appears to be one of the rare possible wins on the Spartan schedule. Central is in the same position as last season after a week 1 win against Aurora East which looking at the score may have been played in the historic gymnasium. A win here and against Joliet Central means playoffs for Central, and I bet they know.

Joliet West (1-2) @ Plainfield S (3-0) - speculation is that South is the class of the East this season. They have scored solid wins over Pekin and Andrew plus Romeoville. Joliet West comes in fresh off of a win over their district rivals after two losses in unnecessary crossover nonconference games. This may be for the conference championship although Plainfield E will certainly have something to say about it.

Joliet Central (2-1) @ Plainfield E (3-0) - looking at the records this is game of the week in the East. However, in actuality Plainfield East has put together 3 consecutive dominant weeks while Central is recovering from a lopsided loss to Joliet West. Can the Steelmen rebound and clinch a playoff spot or will the Bengals continue its streak of pummeling opponents?

West

Yorkville (2-1) @ The Nook (1-2) - The Minooka Football Team notched its 1st win of the season last week when they nipped Oswego East 10-0. The Foxes are coming off of their only loss of the season where they stifled the Bolingbrook offense. This looks to be a defensive struggle. Whatever the under is, take it.

Plainfield N (2-1) @ Oswego E (2-1) - game of the week in the West. Both teams lost last week and are looking to rebound. North lost to Oswego in what some prognosticators were calling the conference championship game while East lost to a struggling Minooka. North will want to prove that last week was the championship and East wants to prove that they should be in the convo.

Oswego (3-0) @ Bolingbrook (2-1) - Oswego's offense has been unstoppable putting up 44, 44, and 34 this season. While the Raider offense has struggled in each game. Oswego looks to have tightened up on D only allowing 14 a week ago after surrendering 22 and 42, with the 42 coming from an impressive Geneva offense. Raider D also has tightened up after giving up 31 in week 1 to only allowing 6 and 7 the past two weeks.

Thought it was pretty notable that Metea had a huge comeback win against Neuqua last night. Wonder if they're the next big thing in the DVC and ready to challenge Naperville North in week 5.

They are not good.
Who isn't good? Metea or Neuqua? I watched the highlights and would argue that Neuqua collapsed down the stretch and Metea found a way to capitalize. One Valley school was clearly the better team and had a finishers mentality. The other school, not so much.

I'd agree but I do think that Neuqua collapsed down the stretch of that game and that Metea capitalized.
My understanding is that anything that could go wrong in the last few minutes did. Including questionable officiating and bad clock operating.

I also got a better understanding of why NV's numbers are down. They redrew the lines in 204 and they lost a lot of kids to other schools in the district. I spend most of this past weekend with in Ketucky with NV coaches, MV parents/former students and, of course, the good people of Oswego. :)

Coming into the Minooka/Yorkville game I would have agreed on taking the under. Being at the game, was pleasantly surprised with the offenses in that game. Minooka actually opened up a passing game and hit the middle of the field for the first time in probably 4 years

Week 5 is crossover week in the SWP
Lets see if the West continues the domination

Romeoville (1-3) @ Plainfield N (3-1) - The Tigers are the heavy favorites, health is the key here.

Plainfield S (4-0) @ Oswego (3-1) - Plainfield S may be the top team in the East and are coming off of a big win against Joliet W. Oswego will be itching to get back on the field after being stifled last Friday in their upset loss to Bolingbrook. This is a major step up in opponent for South.

Plainfield C (1-3) @ Bolingbrook (3-1) - Unfortunately for Central the Raiders need to work on every facet of offense. It doesn't look good for the Wildcats.

Plainfield E (4-0) @ Yorkville (2-2) - Likely to be the most competitive game of the crossovers. East has scored 209 points in 4 weeks and have only surrendered 12, all in one game. Yorkville is coming in with 2 consecutive losses and has scored a combined 25 points in the losses. Foxes will want to get back on the right side of the ledger, while East wants to show they can compete with the West division.

Joliet W (1-3) @ The Nook (2-2) - The Minooka Football Team is riding a 2 game winning streak after some had written them off. This will be the 3rd game against the West division for Joliet after dropping "non-conference" games to Oswego E and Yorkville. A win here would be huge for the Tigers while The Nook wants to keep the wave going.

Oswego E (2-2) @ Joliet C (2-2) - After starting the season 2-0 the Steelmen havent scored in 2 weeks in search of their playoff clinching 3rd win. Oswego E also is on a 2 game skid, but has not allowed more than 14 points in any game. If Central can keep the score respectable that is a win.

It was a NN debacle. But that QB for MV is nice. Was throwing lasers out there. However they couldnt manage to get into the end zone then he got injured in the 3rd and the game went to 💩.

NN is a solid team. Theyre going to make you beat them.

Week 6 SouthWest Prairie games

East:
Plainfield E (4-1) @ Plainfield S (4-1) - this is the defacto conference championship. Both teams come in with only 1 loss which is in their crossover game, East losing to Yorkville and South to Oswego. East has been winning with a larger margin of victory while South has played better competition including a win over 4-1 Pekin. Not sure what to expect, but Im pulling for the Bengals.

Joliet C (2-3) @ Plainfield C (1-4) - Steelmen are playing for a playoff bid and even a possible 4 win season. Joliet is coming off of a 37-0 loss to Oswego E while Plainfield surrendered 62 in shutout loss to Bolingbrook. Joliet has been blanked 3 straight weeks but has been giving up less points than they typically do in those same games. Not sure what happens here.

Romeoville (1-4) @ Joliet W (1-4) - Same records, but theyre not built the same. West is coming off of a 1 score loss to Minooka while Romeoville was uncompetitive with Plainfield N. Both teams need this W to make the playoffs making this a playoff game. West appears to be in the driver seat though.

West:
The Nook (3-2) @ Plainfield N (4-1) - The Minooka Football team is in 1st place and want to remain that way while the Tigers were predicted to finish 2nd have only lost to Oswego, the predicted champs, and need this win to stay in the hunt. Having clinched a playoff spot both teams are looking for an opening round bye. North has been solid on D only allowing more than 15 points once in the 34-14 loss to Oswego. The Nook has been less consistent on both sides of the ball.

Oswego (4-1) @ Yorkville (3-2) - The Panthers got back to their winning ways knocking off previously undefeated Plainfield S, while Yorkville did the same against previously undefeated Plainfield E holding their high octane offense to 14 points. Yorkville has won 4 of the last 7.

Bolingbrook (4-1) @ Oswego E (3-2) - The Wolves are coming off of an impressive defeat of Joliet C 37-0 while Bolingbrook got their offense jump started by playing Plainfield C. East hasnt given up more than 14 points in any game thus far and will want to continue that trend against a Bolingbrook offense looking for an identity. East will be looking to avenge its two losses to Bolingbrook last year.

Plainfield S wins in a lower scoring game than I expected. That should wrap up the conference championship in the East.

Joliet C clinched a playoff birth with a win over Plainfield C. With a game against Romeoville still to come they can increase their win total yet.

Joliet W got the win as expected, but will need a win over Plainfield E or Plainfield C to qualify for the post season.

Plainfield N weeks out the close win over The Nook. The race for spots 3-6 is going to be a tight one in the West.

Oswego handles Yorkville to tie the series at 4-4 over the last eight. No Banire, no problem as the Panthers pour in 44 (which seems to be their score of choice) without their main weapon against a stingy Foxes D.

Raiders get the offense clicking against Oswego E and are rounding into form of how I expected them to be. Still have work to do on O and S/T in order to complete the ultimate goal.

After an illuminating week of football in The Prairie we have some answers

East - Plainfield South looks to be the champs after surviving a surprisingly low scoring affair with Plainfield East. Joliet Central clinched a playoff birth after their defensive struggle with Plainfield Central.

As for the week 7 schedule--its another crossover week so there won't be many competitive matchups

Oswego E (3-3) @ Romeoville (1-5) - After a tough game last Friday the Wolves look to get back on track and get a lot of people playing time.

Yorkville (3-3) @ Plainfield S (3-3) - This has the potential to be competitive with South coming off of an important win over Plainfield E, and Yorkville reeling from giving up 44 points to a Banire-less Oswego last week. The 44 points are more than double anything they have allowed all season. Foxes will want to prove last week was a fluke, Cougars will want to show they can go toe to toe with teams in the West division.

Minooka (3-3) @ Plainfield C (1-5) - The Nook is coming off of a close loss to Plainfield N. Plainfield C is coming off of a close loss to Joliet C. Both of those games were defensive struggles. This one will not be.

Plainfield N (5-1) @ Plainfield E (4-2) - Plainfield N as predicted in the preseason is right in the thick of things in the West, Plainfield E is in the upper echelon in the East. It is possible the game could be competitive as Tiger vs a Bengal should be.

Oswego (5-1) @ Joliet W (2-4) - Tigers are still looking to clinch a playoff birth, Oswego week is not the week to count on it. Oswego has played without their star RB for two weeks has been able to consistently put up points despite being shorthanded. Joliet W played The Nook to within one score last crossover week.

Bolingbrook (5-1) @ Joliet C (3-3) - Steelmen broke a streak of not making the playoffs since 1976 last week. Hurray for that. Raiders finally looked dangerous on offense last week.

Taking a little break from the football action this weekend and watching the horses (Keeneland) instead. Where I will likely be looking for the room showing college football.
Never have been a horse race guy, but when I worked up in Northbrook before the Bears tore down the track we went for an outing once. Way more enjoyable than I expected, even turned $20 into $38.

That said, they have horses on the east side of Oswego.
