Hickory @ Alexander Central

Hickory will look to get back on track after a tough loss to a good South Point team. AC had an impressive win over Newton Conover and will hope to keep this one close. AC can score and has some good running backs but will have trouble slowing down the Hickory spread.

Hickory 42
Alexander Central 22

Draughn @ Freedom

Another easy win for Freedom. The schedule will get tougher soon, and we will learn more about their team.

Freedom 49
Draughn 7

Mitchell @ McDowell

The Titans took it on the chin in Week 1 against a talented RS team. It doesn't get any easier this week with a tough Mitchell team coming in that McDowell hasn't beaten in years. Could be a long season again for McDowell.

Mitchell 40
McDowell 13

Hibriten @ South Caldwell

Can South keep it close? Hibriten had a nice win in Week 1 as well and should keep SC at arm's length.

Hibriten 36
South Caldwell 14

Saint Stephens @ Bunker Hill

Saint lost a heartbreaker to Bandys week 1 and will have another close battle with Bunker Hill. I like Saint to take this one.

Saint Stephens 28
Bunker Hill 21

Watauga @ TC Roberson

This will be a great game and one of the best in the state. How much has Watauga reloaded? This game will tell us a lot. TC can run and pass the ball and has some nasty D-linemen and good special teams.

TC Roberson 35
Watauga 28

Excited to see how a young, inexperienced watauga team performs tonight. I think itll speak volumes to coach habichs ability to prepare teams for Friday. He is one of the best at that, but its going to come down to execution. TCR wants the win and on paper they are the better team in my opinion

More controversy after last night’s Freedom/Draughn game, where the Wildcats declined to come out and play in the second half. Let me speak to some of the comments I saw on the book of face.
1. Why does Freedom play Patton and Draughn in football? Well, because they bring a big gate and schools rely on football revenue to support their sports programs. Freedom and Draughn took a break from playing football a few years ago, but returned to playing a couple of years ago and I believe it was for this reason.
2. Why don’t we have schools that are “equal” in size? Burke County doesn’t have schools that are more equal in size because the people in and around Valdese wanted “their own high school.” We were only going to build a third county high school when there was a big push from that area for a fourth school. There are good reasons to have a local school, but that means other people get “their own school” too. You can’t go bussing kids past closer schools because you weren’t willing to accept the three school solution. You get what you get in this deal.
3. Why is Freedom so much larger than the other schools? Freedom was always bigger than EB as most of the population here is in the western part of the county. Shifting kids to a centrally located third school was possible, but with Draughn where it is, that’s impossible. Kids that live west of 64, in Oak Hill or near the lake shouldn’t have to drive past the closer school to satisfy the whining coming from Valdese today.
Glad to get that off my chest.

Would you not agree that Roberson won easily? I have been nothing but complimentary to Watauga football
I wouldn't say it was easily. It was 14 all at halftime. They opened it up in the second half, yes. But thats the only matchup you post a score.

Instead of answering my question, you sidestep and ask me a question. So again, who hurt you? And what do you have against Watauga?

Wasn't it implemented a few years back that schedules are made with logistics in mind? I was thinking the state almost forced schools to play non conference games in close proximity. I may be wrong though.

Never. Non conference is always the schools choice. Thats why you have some schools traveling to different states. Games with close proximity schools can be a bigger gate if they travel well.

Dude your ridiculous.
It’s semantics. Say’ “Watauga lost a hard fought ballgame and another 28pts in the final minutes and they’d have secured the win!” See doesn’t that sound better and more accurately portray the evening.😂

I personally thought if TCR did their thing they’d beat the piss out of them and they did. Maybe another coach would have lost that game by 60, so Habich may have still done his thing.🤷‍♂️
