In the court of public opinion, Heck has won the day. Kirk knows this, and I believe that's why he'll trot him out first. Every opportunity Brown has had in front of fans has been negative, while Heck has only been positive. If Heck somehow looks bad against NIU in the first few drives, it'll be easier to sub him out for Brown.

Ultimately, reading between the lines from Kirk's interviews, I firmly believe this is a Lester decision and Kirk will support it. Kirk knows he's struck out a few too many times when selecting a QB, so I think this time he'll defer to Lester who is much more knowledgeable, especially considering how close this race supposedly is. And if it is Lester's choice, he'll go with Heck because Lester prefers a gunslinger willing to extend the play and take risks rather than a safe check down charley.

Listening to Lester's numerous media interviews, it's clear his goal this year is to bolster the passing game. I think this is something that has stuck in his craw since getting here. And now that he finally has QBs who have been in his system for more than a year, he wants to take that next step. Not to mention some actual receiving threats too. If the right guy is chosen, or if one of them comes into their own, Lester could really break this offense open like he's wanted to. He's cited he has a book full of plays he's yet to touch because we haven't had the personnel to pull them off, now we do, and he's been working on it all year.
In the name of All That Is Holy, I hope you are right.

Iowa State fell off last year, and I would happily debate that Washington this year is better than last years USC team. so substitute Oregon with Ohio State. Michigan for Indiana, although Indy came out being much better than most expected. None of this even mentions how good Illinois could be this year, Wisky will be improved, Minnesota will be improved. Pretty sure most of the outlets I've read leaves Iowa right in the middle of the pack for schedule strength.

first 3 games? According to what exactly? Kirk has already stated next week a qb will be chosen to take the reps with the 1s, I expect both qbs to see playing time game one, but I would be surprised as **** to see significant playing time for both qbs in all 3 opening games.
So would I. If that happens, the Hawks are in trouble.

I would actually like to see the day where Iowa develops packages to take advantage of quarterback "B" s skill set vs quarterback "A".

UNC leads TCU 15-10 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd Q.

Everyone's aware Iowa would be beating both of these teams at least 17-0 right now with Abe Lincoln at qb, right?

No. I don’t really get where you’re going with that either.

Gronowski put up 2300 total yards and Iowa won 9 games with less offensive talent and a harder schedule.

Speaking of difficult schedules, I really hope we have our quarterback situation figured out and he is playing well before we head to Ann Arbor.

Michigan , Ohio State and Washington is going to be one extremely difficult stretch.

Taking this with a very large grain of salt, but there has been some rumblings on Twitter that Heck has been named the starter.

We should all take everything you say with a grain of salt, considering.

Go Hawks!

First game I'd expect to see both play. Second game probably more slanted depending on the starter and how much of a fight we get from ISU. Third game we better have ONE clear guy to really settle in for our first real test in the big house.

For someone not on it you know who is posting it? Anyone writers or guys who cover the hawks or more hearsay rumors?

For those closer to this, wouldn’t Heck theoretically provide Iowa with more of a running threat? It seems from limited observations that he is versatile enough to scramble, make plays with his feet, and excel in designed QB runs as well. Would Lester utilize this as an extra weapon or are Heck’s dual threat capabilities overblown?

From what Lester says, the answer is no. Brown actually has more speed, so there's no reason to prefer Heck as a runner. Heck is quicker, though, so probably the better scrambler in the backfield.

An account called Hawkeye Source was the first to allude to the decision. The weird thing about Twitter is you never really know, sometimes these random accounts do have someone on the inside feeding them info, others are just full of it looking for engagement. You just kind of have to keep a finger on the pulse of the burners and media. But sometimes when there's smoke, there's fire.

Be prepared to say “what …the…Heck” this season when he does something stupid like turn the ball over, it will happen….

Let all the whining begin. 😆 🤣

I think the vast majority of fans knew that, if the reports about practices were true, this would be a position won during an actual game rather than through camp. It's fully expected for both to play. What we don't know is how Kirk will divvy up the snaps. Per quarter? Per half? Every other series?

I can see Hank grinding away doing the right things nothing spectacular but nothing catastrophic moving the ball with a solid running game and a few passes mixed in.
I see Heck moving the ball but itching for the explosive play and having some success but then throwing the ball unnecessarily into tight windows risking interceptions and getting them.
This may be the scenario coach's see at practice.

Neither qb is a true dual threat. Very little designed qb run will be called, compared to last year.

Brown is faster. While Heck seems to have to better feel and elusiveness, which is more important
