Anyone else stream a little D2 football, specifically before the college season gets in full swing?

There's a slate of games this evening, usually, streamed on FLO Sports.

Ferris State versuse Pitt State is a good one tonight.

I'll also have my eye on the McEndree/Saginaw Valley game - Freshman TE from Minooka earned a seat on the bus.

Probably a separate thread, and perhaps outside the edgy lane, but I love to go to at least a couple D3, naia games a year. 10 bucks. Park and walk in. Great seats. Curious to see if the board has any favorites. So far, love Carthage, North Central, Whitewater

All good, probably don't need more than one - North Central games are fun.

Roosevelt's stadium isn't great, but they play in arguably the best D2 conference in the country and host Grand Valley State later this year.

Pitt State is always good. Same for Ferris. NWMSU is up in the rankings this year as well. I have a good friend who played at Pitt State. Been to Arrowhead to see them play NWMSU more than once. Solid stuff. I do follow D II football. But Illinois has only two D II teams that II am aware of. Sad.

My son was recruited by both those schools. We actually went out and watched them play each other in 2020. It was one of the only college football games happening in the country at the time.

I should have added NWMSU to my list of great D2 stadiums and both Pitt and NWMSU have two of the best mascots in all of football.

Illinois now has 3 - McEndree, Quincy and Roosevelt.

Any word on North Central getting or wanting to be moved up? D1 is obviously a jump but I think they would be fine in D2.

Roosevelt made too big of a jump. Such an odd situation. Downtown campus, practice and play on a high school size field in Arlington Heights....so many great D3 options with better accommodations

I haven't heard, about North Central, but they'd have to make a some upgrades to be considered D1. Grand Valley has been doing that the last few years and may make that jump soon.

I disagree about Roosevelt, D2 can offer scholarships and they play in arguably the best conference in D2. The facilities need a lot of work, but they can pull from a talent rich area and offer free education. They were much better last year than the previous year. I expect them to beat Chicago State this weekend.

4 D2 teams beat FCS teams last night & a few other near misses. I miss all the Illinois JUCO teams including Moraine Valley back when they still were the Marauders

There is absolute talent in D2 and it will likely get better. Talented borderline kids can get early playing time and jump ship to a better situation.

I watched Trinidad play for a couple years, nearly beat him too.

Moraine Valley! Them and Joliet gave extended a lot of South Siders playing careers! SXU has now taken over that responsibility and has does a great job!

GV can hold double what North Central can, GV has a pretty sweet set up. I wonder if NC would run into some zoning issues with visitors stands, that is where the significant addition would have to be. I guess ditching the track would help.

Yes, Grand Valley has been adding to their capacity for a while to meet qualifications to be D1. They fill it up too.

The best D2 stadiums I've been to are Pitt State, Grand Valley State and Sioux Falls. Northern Michigan has a dome, which is cool and being in the UP in the fall is pretty awesome as well.
Other than it being the home of the stinkin Wildcats the Superior Dome is pretty cool.

ROTC and/or National Guard used to rappel from the roof to midfield to deliver the game ball.

3 of those wins were against non-scholarship FCS teams (Davidson, Drake & Morehead St) Those three schools are closer to top end D3 schools than to "real" FCS schools.

Yeah, that level FCS is a rough life, unless you go to where, I believe, is your alma mater?
