UNC Women's Soccer 2026-2027

Being honest, I think this team is going to be an absolute nightmare for opponents by November. They’ve got some spice about them.
Although the team was not on my flight, we landed at same time yesterday in Dublin. Saw them all in the customs line and could tell how excited everyone is for this experience. Hope they have a great week in Ireland.
Especially once they have a full roster. Already had some games missed with players competing on national teams and will have more of those in September.
Ha! They were on ours originally but the flight was delayed so much we weren’t catching our connector. I talked to Ashley while we were boarding and she said they got split up into at least 3 groups going all over the place. We had about 4 players (Izzy, Lauren and one other) and Anson (w M’Liss). Lemme tell you how weird it is to see him in coach, while knowing that the football team got chartered over here.
Everybody came here, but the U20’s are heading to Poland before the Shelbourne match.

The looks I get when we tell the locals that we’re here for a women’s soccer game…. It just doesn’t register with them.

Even the TCU folks don't seem to get it.

Interesting that Gaetino is not starting. Looks like Izzy Stratton is taking that spot in the back. Her red card from the last game wouldn't apply here because it's not an official game, but maybe Damon is looking to see who is ready to fill in back there when she's out the next regular season game. Bradley also starting. Obviously we are down several more key players due to national team duties.

I think that might be called an own goal if this were a 'real' game but it's a friendly so might as well give it to Scottie. Looked like it was still on the goal line and the defender just oddly gave up and ushered it on over. We would have scored either way because someone else was right there to put it in. Should really be 2-0 already.....Scottie gave a great ball to Denigan who hit it over.
Well, nevermind....2-0 now. Denigan scores this time.
Kind of disappointed in the level of competition. This is going to be a blowout. Opponents already looked gassed. Could easily be 4-0 already.

This is a great opportunity for Damon to get our bench some meaningful minutes, especially with some of them getting ready to have to play in some of our upcoming games with the absences we are going to have to deal with. Need to rest our top players after about 30 minutes here.
Also of note....looks like Denigan is playing the 9 and Devey has moved out wide to where she played last season. I am for it.

Interesting comment from the broadcast team about UNC subs standing throughout the game. Confused about why, but noted it's unique to North American college teams.

Impressive half by the Heels. By far the quicker, more skilled and aggressive team.
Announcers said they were a top team in Ireland Premier league didn't they? Obviously not on par with English teams. (Currently 2d in the league.)
Yep apparently they are good in their Irish league. It just shows the massive depth of talent that the US has when it comes to womens' soccer.
Kind of a sloppy, lethargic second half so far. We really should be up 5 or 6 right now. We just don't quite seem to have a good feel or chemistry once we get into the attacking third. Not really even creating a lot of quality scoring chances this half despite being a far superior team. We really are lacking a true, go-to, reliable 9 to play up front.

I've really enjoyed listening to the announcers. They certainly know their stuff. They've managed to talk about their team without being obnoxious homers, unlike most ESPN announcers. Been very complimentary of Carolina. Refreshing to hear.
