I think that jab at Mulkey is unfair. Koval record right now is, the young lady moves after one season. That is her MO right now IMO. She started at ND her freshman year, she transfers to LSU last year, and now she is on the move again. I think she is overrated. There is a reason why she got little minutes at both ND and LSU. Two different coach's same results. I think BT is better than her. She has very slow feet on the defensive end. She cannot jump that well, and her offensive game is limited to around the basket. A good program like LSU is going to continue to bring in top level talent that is the bottom line. UCONN does it, SC does it, USC does it, Louisville is doing it, etc.

This young lady is already played four years. She played three at ECU and this past year at Louisville. She may not be able to play for Louisville because of the ruling by another judge this past Friday. Seth Trimble status is on hold right now. There are a lot of 2022 graduates on hold right now. This young woman she tried out for the WNBA.

There is the national case (Wisne), where everyone is on hold. Then there are 6-10 state cases that put smaller groups of athletes into their own decisions, independent of the national case.

Joyner was a part of the Louisiana case that was probably the most lenient of all to its plaintiffs: It created a temporary restraining order that not only opened the door to play, it also gave her a special transfer portal window, and forgave her professional play. So as of right now, she is eligible temporarily, pending the outcome of the actual case.

So she is not legally similar to Seth Trimble. she is more like Jalen Washington (who had a favorable ruling in the TN case.) Washington as of now is on the TN roster.

I firmly believe if Mulkey actually thought Koval would leave (projected to be her starting center this season) she would not have signed the Russian big. But true to her nature, she thought she could bull her way to what is best for Mulkey and everyone else would fall in line. After all Koval was put in the position of forfeiting a year of eligibility and the associated rev share/NIL, so Mulkey thought she had her over a barrel. She was wrong.

That is how strongly Koval felt about this. There is no world where Koval (and her dad) did not express how strongly they felt about this issue. Considering what they left on the table, you think there was no verbal threat or at least heartfelt plea before this? To answer my own question, Mulkey actually made reference to it in comments before Koval quit. She then made it clear she did not care. Winning first.

The only other option was she wants the Russian more than Koval, and was willing to run off her starting center, whom she had made commitments to, for the Russian kid.

Either way, this was a complete jerk move by Mulkey.

Whatever it’s worth, the social media sphere is 99% trashing Mulkey right now. The belief she was a jerk is near universal.

This is a different time and era right now. I do no see what all of the fuss it; especially what is happening in our country, world, etc. Fans attacking players right now, Fans making negative comments about players right, no matter what level. I do not see you complaining or saying anything about this. Just a few weeks ago, a Montana boys soccer game. One player trips another player, then he jumps on top of that player and start punching him and kicking him in the back. No body says anything about this. Some coaches are sympathetic and so are not. Some coaches have gotten death threats because they lost an important game but no one is saying anything about this. I do not see you standing up for these people. My last point is this, I though this board was for UNC. Why are you bringing up LSU stuff. Let LSU fans worry about Kim and his players. Go Heels!

That stuff is not relevant to UNC. Also, there are also other wars that are going on right now where a lot of students and student athletes are being effected which no one is talking about. The last time I checked Russia and the US has never really got along that well. Wars have been going in the Gaza Stir for years now, I do not see you talking about that. Let's stick to just UNC BB.

The thread title is: "2026-27 NCAA general scores and news" It is created to be about programs other than UNC. Or the conferences. Or whole NCAA in general. For people who want to discuss general topics on NCAA WBB. We had a 2025-26 version of this thread as well and it proved to be reasonably popular.

Over 1/3 of the posts in this thread are by you. None of them are about UNC women's basketball either. Including the post I am responding to here.

It is common on IC boards to have threads about other teams and topics within the sport. Our only rule on that is to try and clearly identify that in the thread title, so people can choose what interests them.

The are no mentions of politics in this thread. (other than your post.) With that said, politics is allowed generally if it is relevant to the sport. We can, for example, talk about the "Protect College Sports Act," as US bill created by politicians that has wide-reaching sports implications. Because those implications affect the sports that these message boards were created to discuss. With that said, people have to be civil and refrain from muckraking or promoting/bashing specific politicians or parties.

I for one am glad the topic was brought up. Yes, this is a UNC forum but UNC WBB does not exist in a vacuum. Instead of trying to police other posters it might be wiser if we do not engage in topics that we don't like or find uninteresting.

The ACC decision today which bans players who participated in the WNBA draft, likely removed Joyner's eligibility (recent grad transfer at Louisville). Of course that too is challengeable in court.

suffice it to say, Walz is not a fan of the new ACC policy...

I do understand how Koval feels, but every country has good people in it including Russia. This young Russian lady coming into LSU does not have anything to do with the political structure of Russia. She is a college level student and we did not hear her side of the story. There are always two sides to every store. We do not know what she has been told. We do not know if she has been brain washed to believing what she is seeing and hearing from the leaders that run Russia. What we do know is that propaganda in all countries are very strong in all countries. I think Koval is okay but I am not that impress with what she has done so far at both ND and LSU. She played a little bit at ND too.

I do agree with you: we should not judge individuals of any country by the politics of their country. that quickly can become the harmful form of prejudice that helps feed conflict. I never would judge Liza Astakhova for her nationality.

there is one small caveat for Anna Minaeva: she was/is on the Russian national team and to some degree serves as a representative of her country in that way. She has promoted her team membership on her social media. whether that is pride in her achievement or pride in her country, who knows? Russia is not a place right now where you can risk speaking out against the leadership.

as for Koval , I think her decision had much more to do with the callousness of her coach towards her feelings than who Minaeva is or is not.
