Rutgers Football has announced their 2026 Blackout game at SHI Stadium and it's against the defending National Champions in Indiana.

Not ideal for homecoming against the returning champs and I love the blackout games. Blackout should've been Halloween vs Michigan or 11/14 vs Nebraska. I know game times weren't announced for those and we want a night game but not a fan of this.

Nothing, of course. We drink until we blackout at the tailgate.
Maybe we could wear our red jerseys with RUTGERS above the numerals. Maybe Indiana's quarterback will get confused and think our defenders are on his team.
Homecoming and a blackout....almost too much to handle in one day

This is incredibly stupid as Indiana will have the largest away fan contingent we’ve ever seen. Yes more than PSU, Michigan, OSU of early B1G years. Now they will stick out in the crowd in their red and white. It would have been perfect game for scarlet out or just normal. Blackout is moronic for the IU game. Seriously our athletic department has no brains whatsoever.

This - it’s the only night game other than Howard. We’d look ridiculous making Howard a blackout, suddenly not playing a blackout game despite an opportunity on the schedule against the reigning champs, or playing a blackout game during the day against someone else. Basically the only option.
NJ isnt a big bastion of IU alums and even if it was, what makes you think they are all football fans? Its homecoming. You want epic memories you have to set them up. Night games have a special energy, maybe this is the game that pushes 2006 Louisville down a notch in epic moments for RU football. I like the idea. If we want to be big time you can't be afraid. Announcing a black out game against a bad FCS program like Howard would render us the laughing stock of power conference football and the reason would have nothing whatsoever to do with race.

you are probably right on the number of IU fans living in the area as a quick Google search says 15k but that's registered so it's probably higher. I am willing to bet we'll get a good amount of IU fans. I never saw a single IU insignia on any apparel in 10yrs working on wall street and now I see them all over. There is no way we don't get a good amount of IU fans

I wouldn't care but I can imagine all the "older" alumni would be wearing red for homecoming. I'm thinking it wont nearly be as much a blackout as hoped.
My concern from an organizational perspective is less about the opponent and more coinciding with homecoming.
Even having Indiana as homecoming is a separate discussion.

For some fans that like the tailgates every game is a blackout game. It will be particularly useful for the Indiana game.

And that will result in plenty of Game Day posts saying the stadium is full of 70% Indiana fans!
Yes it is. There are tons of Indiana grads who never went to an IU football game in their 4 years who will be at the Rutgers game. Come back to this post in October when the stadium is 50% red on our “blackout”. So dumb by athletics

If they get a 50% attendance rate, which IMO is optimistic, figure at most 10,000 IU fans.

Tons? 1 ton is only about 10 IU grads so still not a lot. The only way 50% of the fans are from IU is if we are 1-3 going into that game
