It should just be open to anyone for as long as anyone is wanted and wants to do it. The whole college education thing is a total farce.
I'm sure the athletes graduating from high school would just love that approach. You do realize that Many/most of Iowa's football players do in fact get a degree, right? Add to that that most of them will NEVER play in a pro sports league, so maybe this whole "college education" thing does in fact mean something? We've had doctors and engineers etc.. come through our athletic programs, or does none of that matter anymore? And NO we don't need another NFL league. At least the 5 year plan doesn't stray the eligibility too far from what it has been.

from returning to play BIG college football. Will SEC follow their lead?

When you have coaches like Lane Kiffin, the SEC needs to stop these snakes in the grass.
nice photo but wrong species of snake to be appropriate. You really need a photo of a python or black mamba.

That is just a harmless garter snake.

I don't troll Twitter or X, whatever its called, so maybe I'm just missing it but I've seen mentions of the vast majority of major conferences either already or preparing to discuss this issue.

All but the Big12 & Big East. And the new PAC.

B10 & SEC have already ruled that they won't allow players who chose to go pro to come back to the collegiate level.

If Big Ten does and SEC and Big 12 don't, really puts Big at a disadvantage.
How so. Were talking about a few guys MAYBE, and this will be worked out in the next couple of years. One guy on most those big 12 teams isn't going to make much difference anyway. I think were over thinking the importance of this and the B1G is doing the right thing. The SEC will follow suit this year or soon.

Do you not think Iowa wouldn’t have a much better outlook on the season if we had Graves, XN and Drew Stevens? A few fringe NFL players could make a huge impact. All I care is the rules are the same for all teams.

Drew is the starting kicker for Washington, not exactly a fringe NFL player. I honestly don't think the other 2 would make or break the season. And even if they did, so what? They both played 4 years and had their times to shine. Let's move on.

Uh, excuse me? Only one of those is a "fringe player". X will most likely make the Chiefs 53 man roster. Stephens has already been announced as the Commanders kicker for this season. At this point we have no idea whether one of the 7 or 8 DT will fill that role. As for the rules being the same? What does that mean. We play in the B1G, and if the conference keeps these (handful by the way) players out. then its fair throughout the conference. We won't play anyone in the SEC unless its in the bowl game or playoff, and they may very likely rule the same way anyway. If we lost to ISU and its because they got one "fringe player" back then we didn't deserve to beat them anyway. This is a great deal to do with pretty much nothing, especially if the B1G bans these handful of players from returning, (which it appears they are going to do. I was GLAD when they finally stopped the covid year crap, and hopefully we'll move on from this as well.

X will make the Chiefs 53 man roster, and frankly we're solid and deep in the DB position anyway.

SEC has voted 16-0 to ban these players.
Big 12 and ACC will meet today and are expected to join the ban.
ND has banned these players

Cue the attorneys and courts.
I’m guessing the schools will be reluctant to take a player for risk of league reprisal. The courts can’t force a team to take a kid and certainly can’t force a team to play said kid.

I’ll admit I didn’t read either of your posts after objecting to me calling them fringe NFL players. They all were UFA.

AI says night 9 to 12% of UGA’s who get camp invites actually make the 53 man roster. I wonder venture to guess maybe half of those or less stick in the league beyond 3 years. That to me is as “fringe-y” as it gets.

All that say, those guys all were All-B10 caliber players. Of course Iowa be improved by having them back, to suggest otherwise is laughable.

FCS should welcome them with open arms. NIL and transfers has killed FCS. The product has taken several steps backwards.

NO one suggested that it wouldn't be good to have them back. That's not the point. They aren't coming back, (at least X and Stephens), that's the point here. They're already making the 53 man roster, this season. after this they wouldn't even have the option of coming back. Graves is the only who could come back, or if he sticks on the practice squad, he could get called up by his current team, or possibly traded and make another roster. Besides which if the B1G passes this rule, its all moot anyway.

I agree it’s irrelevant now. I was just wanting uniformity between conferences. And my point was it’s not just one guy per team. It could be multiple players that would have real value to a team. If one team has that access and another doesn’t, it’s a disadvantage that you’re conceding.

All I'm saying is IF the B1G and SEC say no, (which it appears they will) just how much impact is a team really going to get even bring in several already established 'fringe" players. NONE of these guys are 1st to 5th round draft picks. Most of the top 25 teams probably have players just as good or better on their roster. Frankly we're not even sure that Iowa doesn't have a better player then Graves on the roster. It remains to be seen. Do the guys who have been on the roster for 2,3,4 years not deserve their shot?
