Student season tickets

Because free tickets doesn’t mean in the slightest that they’ll show up.

No reason to give away free season ticket packages. I do consider offering free student tickets to be the best strategy, but that should be executed at the individual game level.

I also support selling student season tickets, but the selling point should be paying for guaranteed access to the highest demand games rather than a discount (since there's obviously not a discount if singles are free).

Making student tickets free will hurt the scan rate but should help the take rate enough to offset it to remain a net positive. Plus there's other ways to encourage scans once the tickets are out.

I thought some recent prior years, if a student attended all of the games, they received either all or some of their season ticket money back. That might be good incentive, or some other incentives to increase attendance.

I really do not think the cost impacts attendance; most students I am sure parents are paying the bill and doubt another $150 affects the overall bottom line for tuition and fees.

My nephew is a student at SHU, when he was in grammar school and high school he attended almost every game with his family. Became a student at SHU and missed many games last season. When asked him or his parents why he didn't attend, answers would be had class, too much work, came home for weekend or just a shrug with no real answer.

I'm just drawing on some experience analyzing last minute building filling offers. While the audience isn't SHU students (it's pro sports with an audience of working adults) we've tested offering both free and deeply discounted (as low as $10) tickets to a select audience and while the paid tickets scanned about 24% better than the free ones, the take rate on the free ones was 10x the paid ones and the cheapest paid tickets actually had some of the worst take rates. It's not a completely apples to apples comparison, but it does establish that a cost, however low, is still a fairly significant barrier to moving distressed inventory. And that's for working adults, I'd guess it would be moreso for broke college students.

The way to go obviously comes down to business objectives, but I'd opine that total volume (of tickets out but more importantly tickets scanned in) is more important in regards to the student section than a little extra revenue.
