At what point can colleges start trading players?

If they can come and go as they please then how far out are we from trades happening during the season?

The only hang up is the illusion that they are students. They would need to withdraw from all classes and then enroll at another university in time to theoretically complete coursework for a grade.

The obvious way around that is to have all the students be enrolled at Ole Miss and play for all schools.

Schools get Natties; Ole Miss gets Useless Banners…

All it would take is for a few players to enroll at an online college with no athletic program and then file a lawsuit claiming the NCAA is denying them their right to earn a living while in school by not letting them play for another “school”. Then they’d be able to farm themselves out to the highest bidder.

No need, it appears that big time programs, like LSU, have unlimited roster spots. No need to trade, just keep adding. Bear Bryant playbook, sign as many players as possible, even if you never expect them to play, to keep them off your opponent's rosters.

As soon as the players sign employment agreements thst allow them to be traded. Thats a long way off, for some reason.

The whole reason for the unlimited transfers was that students should be allowed to choose where to go to school. Now we are going to make them go to a school they never chose?

Create an online college that grants moron degrees. Players that don't care about education enroll in that and do nothing but virtual coloring book projects. Brick and mortar colleges / ADs contract them out for sports and maximizing TV contract value. Can cut or trade contracts.

Sadly, I'm not kidding. This isn't any more disingenuous than the current system. Might as well be honest about what we are doing.

Of course there would still be room for athletes that do care about an education. They can keep playing sports and getting a real degree. Schools can cater to them as real students. Schools can also dump the idiot distractions and continue to profit from the time they spend on the file wearing a school's uniform. Win win?

I could see that happening, but an easier option would be for them to use the NCAA’s new rule of 5 years to their advantage. They can sue to be allowed to play sports without being enrolled in any college as long as they meet the age requirement. Universities would truly become the minor league franchises for the NFL. Hire them as employees. You don’t need to house or feed them. You don’t have to deal with all of the accreditation issues and graduation rates.

I can see the lawsuit arguing the equity angle. The NCAA is “discriminating against people who aren’t as smart academically or who came from poor school systems which is not their fault.”

I think Anthony 3D Butts came to the Management class twice that I was in. One time was for the final exam.
Two classes with athletes I can remember. Kirby Robinson (CB in football team). Good guy & pretty smart. Just a regular student who happened to play football. Teacher asked him once if he was the only player between Refrigerator Perry & the goal line (this was 1985) if he’d take him on. He wisely said probably not. Tony Robinson (basketball forward) was in my speech class. Also a good guy. But it was painfully obvious someone was writing his speeches for him.

All you would need to do is have every school with 3 types of classes in one semester: 1. A full semester long class, 2. A first eight-week class, 3. second eight-week class. Trade deadline by the end of the first eight weeks and they enroll in a full schedule for the second eight weeks at the new school. Then they attend two different schools/play on two different teams in a single semester.

Many of them are to an extent. The elite athletes? Nope.
Thats the thing people overlook in these eligibility discussions. Many of the athletes in non-revenue sports are reliant on their scholarship to get an education. Being eligible one day and ineligible the next can put them in a tough spot if they haven't applied for financial aid.

Colleges need to initiate a "Certificate Program" and join with area Community Colleges for players to learn a skilled trade. Not all students are college material. Then they can go after some trading rules.

A tale as old as time. If you think these kids go to class on the regular are you a true football fan?
