haha all good! Most of the small towns around here are about the same! Macon Meridian supposed to be decent in 8 man this year so I've heard
no good reason for confusing the two, I just have in the past, and clearly still will in the future... I've golfed in Moweaqua a few times... I've been to a dirt track race with a buddy in Macon once, not my normal crowd but it was super fun.

Good for Macon though! Lots of good people that way. Very proud bunch. My in-laws and wife know a family from Blue Mound that they've gone to church with for years and grown up with. We've gone to the Blue Mound festival a couple of times to see them and for pork chop dinners while they'd be grilling and serving. My daughter calls it Blue Mountain and giggles when she sees the water tower in Boody... lol

Moweaqua's got a nice golf course for a small town. Played there many times, still do on occasion. Best part about Moweaqua though is the atmosphere for home football games, especially come playoff time. Hope the Raiders can get back to that this season - I got to witness that playoff atmosphere as a player for 3 out of my 4 years as a Raider.

Can't go wrong with a Saturday night at the dirt track in Macon either. That's always a good time.

Biggest surprise - Central A&M/Okaw Valley 33 - Deer Creek Mackinaw 6. A&M/OV's new defense looked impressive with defensive tackle Collin Reed having not 1 but 2 interceptions. A&M/OV's freshman QB, Jett Evans shined in his first varsity start, throwing for 300 yards and 3 TD's. A&M/OV with a big statement in a week 1 measuring stick game.

Very, very excited to see more from Jett Evans!

Massive win to start the year from Coach Higgins and the Raiders.

Meridian should be better in 2026. They made the I8FA playoffs last season which was their first playing 8man. Coach Sparks has a good team, but that south is tough with Pawnee, South Fork, Metro-East Lutheran, etc...

Heck Cerro Gordo-Bement looked good last Thursday night in their 1st game as an 8man team.

Biggest surprise: Cary-Grove and Prairie Ridge both going down in the same week against Jacobs and Crystal Lake South respectively (credit to the Golden Eagles and Gators).

Biggest disappointment: Bolingbrook getting shut out at home by non-conference rival Homewood-Flossmoor.

Surprised Nazerth lost as badly as they did to ICC as they also had numerous D1 players and a transfer QB who was supposed to be legit.
IC played a great game and are a load. Naz was down 5 starters (4 D1 players). If they don't get back quick the season will get away from the Roadrunners in a hurry.

Surprised by the number of penalties the MC had against ESL. I know, young and new OL etc. but the # of holding penalties was shocking. I am sure it will be corrected but certainly didn't expect that.

Surprised by the discipline of ESL's OL. Don't take it the wrong way (I know ESL is often labeled as such) but against the caliber of defense MC has I expected them to have some troubles/penalties.

Sitting here Monday morning QBing, it makes sense on the MC side. Young O-Line and new QB(s) going up against arguably the most talented team they will face all year. Granted they do go against MC D in practice but practice is not a game.

Yes, Meridian's schedule has some tough ones - I expect they'll be in the 8 man playoffs again though. Nice seeing CGB looking good. They were a consistent playoff team in 11 man back in the day, crazy how times change. Hope things go well for the Broncos this season!

Yeah, as I said I knew they were a young unit and I will admit I don't know if ESL's defensive front was experienced or not. I figured there would be some growing pains but it seemed more than what I would have expected. I am sure they will be solid as time goes on, you only get better by testing yourself and that was quite a test for them.

Will be interesting to see who improves and who regresses in week 2. Is IC untouchable? Is HF that good? Is the Brook down? How does Larry respond after getting surprised by King?

As much fun as the offseason talk is, the over reactions to week 1 are always something to see.

Surprised by the number of penalties the MC had against ESL.

At least as recently as the recent past, MC has been prone to penalties, which were usually offset by team strengths. This time, the penalties reflected a loose mindset that also resulted in the fourth quarter collapse. Fortunately, these problems can be fixed.

Surprised by the discipline of ESL's OL.

I always like to see a team take steps to improve itself. Kudos to the Flyers., especially since their problems had seemed so ingrained. Also have to credit them with more luck and magic.

Not entirely sure about all. I know at least 1 was injured early on and didn't get practices. IMO IHSA messed up by not changing the mandatory practice rule when moving the season up a week. You could only miss 1 practice leading up to the season now.
I heard residency questions.

I know NV had some kids at the lower levels whose families had vacations planned and didn't change them.

Champaign Central losing to Danville is a pretty big disappointment, especially with Danville not even having a true QB. Going from beating them 38-14 and putting up 500 yards of offense last year to losing this time around with arguably a better roster and finishing with fewer than 170 yards is a tough way to start the season for a team trying to get back to the playoffs.

Just a night-and-day difference between the 2025 and 2026 openers. Credit to Danville, though. They came ready to play and got it done.

Another one...Peoria Central losing to Peoria Richwoods. Peoria central is looking at a 5-4 year I think.

True. All of these teams will be tough later
