freakin terrible.
After this road trip to Minnesota, we have really nothing of interest on the schedule as far as a home and home series.
When did we cancel the series with Washington St and Texas Tech and why?
Tulane appears as maybe a home and home in like 2031/32 if you consider a road trip to NOLA for a 3 hour, non-Saints football diversion fun.
I know we’ve broached this subject numerous times but why can’t we seem to schedule home and homes with teams that gets the fans fired up to go to, both home and away?
Kansas St
GA Tech
Minnesota
Memphis
Troy
S Alabama
Other than Minnesota, and Ga Tech, which was about 15 years ago (?) - several years ago — and I was home before the game was over since it was over middle of the 1st Qrt, …. these don’t really make me look forward to a good football road trip.

Also, from what I’m seeing on future football schedules, our power nonconference games haven’t been announced yet beyond Minnesota

I could think of a lot of P4 opponents that would be interesting and fair matchups for both team’s and opponents we’ve never or rarely faced in football…

Duke
Maryland
Purdue
UNC
Boston College
Wisconsin
Virginia Tech
UCLA
Michigan State
Replace Duke with Miami or Florida St.
Add in Army - Hell, do a 1 for 3 with them. One at home and 2 at West Point.

WSU was dropped when the were no longer a P4 team. Texas Tech was dropped because the home vs away would have resulted in only 6 home games one year. We’ll add some P4 home & away because we’re required to. I expect it to me similar to what we’ve been doing. Mid level teams. Ideal OOC schedule going forward is a I-AA home game a G5 buy game & the O4 home & home. I’ll be surprised if we go forward with home & away vs Tulane or Memphis.

I bet you love watching Chainsaw Massacre over and over again. It amazes ne how our fans refuse to show up for a 98% guaranteed win but will fall all over themselves trying to get tickets to see State get mauled by the Kansas City Chiefs lookalikes!

KState is a great time to plan a dove hunt while there. Better than skipping a home game for a dove hunt.**

In the past decade we have had home and homes scheduled with Arizona State, Arizona, Kansas State, NC State and BYU. Minnesota this year.
We have plenty of crap to complain about without just making stuff up.

Iowa - Too good
Ucla
Nebraska
West virginia
UNC
Pitt
Syracuse
BC
USCw - Usually too good, too far
Army - Not a P4 school, would have to be a 1-game in Starkville deal
FSU - Sucks now, but been too good before and will be again
Clemson - Was too good, but maybe not any longer
Pretty much anyone in Big 12 or ACC would be good opponents.

Do you complain when powerhouse schools schedule a couple of patsies?

The one thing Mississippi State football has consistently done right, across several different athletic directors and head coaches, is manage non-conference scheduling. We consistently have 7 home games and schedule games we can win at least half the time for the P4 scheduling requirement. Honestly, for me the non-conference P4 home games have been some of the most interesting games we've played the last decade. Not a doormat, but also not another SEC powerhouse we're rarely going to beat.

I have heard very unofficially that North Carolina State, Kansas State and Purdue are in our future. Keenum likes playing the land grants. Those three are the ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten schools we are most like.

We are 62-63 over the last 10 years

NC State is 77-50
Kansas State is 76-49
Purdue is 46-73

I would love to take a trip to WV in the fall. I went on a training trip up there a few years ago and it was beautiful (Summersville Lake area).

P4 teams with openings in 2028-2029:

NC State
North Carolina
Arizona State
Cincinatti
Kansas St.
Texas Tech (just canceled)
Michigan
USC

Purdue has a P4 team scheduled every year until 2032. It will more than likely be one of the top 5 teams listed

I know multiple people from multiple schools who have traveled with their school to West Virginia. ALL of them say it's the worst road trip they ever took and they would NEVER go back.

Just throwing it out there what I heard, and it fits the future schedules at FBSschedules.com
2028 at Kansas State
2029 vs. Kansas State
2030 at North Carolina State (return game from 2020 cancellation)
2031-32 open
2033-34 Purdue

Maybe so, but there are places in that state that are stunningly beautiful.

John Denver even said so, in slightly different words…

My dad worked in WV after college and before his army commitment started, and then later in life he and my mom would vacation there occasionally. They said it's beautiful. At least parts of it are. Parts of it are pretty bad.

Interestingly, Purdue is currently schedule to play Mississippi in 2033-2034. I doubt we still owe NC State a return game for 2020. Think that one was just cancelled.

That's where I am. I mean, probably don't need to schedule Miami even though that'd be an awesome road trip. Not sure who else is going to be consistently good enough to avoid. I'm personally not flying to California for a road game, but not sure other people wouldn't see it as a cool away game because it's so different.

To the extent we have to have OOC road games, I actually like playing them in places we realistically recruit from. For the P4's, that to me is Houston, UCF, SMU, Ga Tech, FSU, Clemson, TCU. Not sure all of those are good options, but ignoring whether they are good places for road trips, they seem decent.
