What a wonderful person who managed the glitz of Nashville, who would marry a nobody like Carl Dean, and make fame and regular life a reality. And yet, she stayed true to her mountain roots, caring, friendly, an ‘everyone woman’ down to earth as you get. Her business acumen and her charity work will be missed by the world. RIP.
Heard her in a taped interview on Sirius after lunch and the interviewer brought up the success of her very first 2 movies, 1980's movie "9-5" and her follow up in 1982 with "Best Little Whorehouse in TX" and what it felt like to have such successful and contrasting roles. Her reply was "well, I thought I was a better who-re than I was a secretary I can tell you that"

I have always wondered if Dolly would go incognito in Sevierville without the wigs and sparkles and everything. Feels like the sort of deal where everyone would be "yeah, that's Dolly, and she's wonderful, and we're all going to be cool about it".

Saw Jane Fonda say that Dolly and her and Lilly Tomlin became close doing 9 to 5, but even they never saw her not wigged out in full makeup.

That's who came to mind for me too. I think we pretty much all love him as an actor and person, but folks seem to ADORE everything about Dolly plus she has really done heavy lifting philanthropically. Hanks may very well have as well, I'm not aware of it.

Not in the realm of Dolly but universally loved I’d say he’s right there. Higher than Betty White or Reba.
He gives ALOT of money to veterans groups and fundraises for them.
He a pretty big donor to cancer research as well.

She had a gift of giving an honest answer and never being offensive to anyone really. I don't know of anyone else like that. Didn't need a PR coach, she just answered truthfully and thoughtfully and it was all her. She was a real hero in so many ways... and if you can play guitar with nails like those....
