Too bad they kinda sucked live. Those harmonized guitars didn’t translate very well to live performances.

Still though, listening to the More Than a Feeling when that intro hits on a good set of headphones is great.

True. They would probably kill it today with what’s acceptable in “live” performances now.

The lyrics are mostly pretty cheesy popcorn, but the production on that first album was genius. And Brad Delp could really sing.

Well, if you think about it, it's not surprising. Scholz basically recorded the whole thing on his own in his basement with Brad Delp. They had the songs before they had a real band.

They sounded good years ago at Snowden Grove. Tom Scholz was the only original member there. He's kept their sound on track pretty well.
Truth is, they’ve had lots of talented musicians play live as Boston through the years, but Scholz and Delp were the only essential pieces to the sound they created on albums.

More Than a Feeling gets all the attention (for good reason), but damn, play Smokin' and crank that shitt up. There's not much better than that.

I have seen videos of live performances and they are usually not quite as good as the album... but I chalk that up to Delp singing all (or most all) the harmony parts on the record. And who the hell else is going to be able to duplicate Brad Delp live?

Sad that we lost him too early. I put him up there with Freddy, Steve Perry, and Paul Rodgers. I'd say he could be the best rock lead singer ever, but the other guys had so much more time and material.

My introduction to rock n roll was the family living next door to my family. They had 4 boys who were all older than my brother and me, and their "big 3" albums were Boston, The Long Run, and Animals. [insert age jokes here]
