My takeaways from a few comments that caught my attention:

- OL will compete again for the Joe Moore award
- Sounds like Kennedy has moved into the two deeps at DT
- Sounds like Hawthorne has stepped it up a notch
- May see year 1 Jones as a a kick returner
- Vonnahame will be drafted next year and Ostrenga looks good
- Brown won the day vs. Hecklinski
- Sounds like our LBer and DB rooms are deep
- Big Ten guys said defense won the day

Can't wait for Northern Illinois, Go Hawks

The season will most likely play out like every single KF led squad

Iowa will manhandle the teams with smaller fronts and inexperienced / Inaccurate QBs

Struggle against the better teams who have the depth and ability to slow down or stop the run, putting the pressure on our QBs to make plays, especially when first option isn’t there.

Defense will do its thing well, but break down when it counts.
8-4 or 9-3

So we're still a quarterback away from great.

Not an inaccurate summary.

Sounds like the DL and QB (again) will, barring significant injuries, determine whether this will be a good or great season.

I trust Phil to get the DL into shape. Not gnashing my teeth over QB…yet. Will wait to see how they perform in a game.

Yes, the defense has broken down when it counts multiple times over the past few years, but if the offense had done its job late in those games, it would be a moot point.

Soft schedule saves the season again. 8-4 ceiling, 5-7 basement if don't recover from the 3 game loss skid Mich-OSU-Wash. Key game will be at Minnesota. Hawks have their number but Minny may not piss away the game like they usually do in Minny.

With a Joe Moore type line, our TEs and the two RBs we have, we ain't going 0 - 3 in that stretch

Lolol.. "Soft schedule"? I don't think so. Compared to several other teams in the league like PSU we play murderer's row. Especially considering the toughest stretch (show me another league team with Iowa's schedule wk 4-6), Kicks off the B1G season, and we're usually better later in the year especially with a young team.

Not sold on Michigan for sure even at their place. I think we beat them. I would say Washington is 50/50. Fisch better have his team a lot more physical this time around or we will beat them also.
Night game @ Washington after the tOSU game on a short week is gonna be tough. I don't see us winning that one. Brutal scheduling. Teams traveling cross country shouldn't play Friday night games.

I think we will have to wait to see how it plays out. 2021 had Laporta, Charlie Jones (1300 yards following season), Keegan Johnson (ugh what could have been), Nico (as a freshman had 400 yards), and Goodson in the back field.
And 2021 had a leaky O Line. This one isn't.

Are they (BTN crew) usually always complimentary or do their comments turn out to be sincere? coz i feel better about the defense after listening to these guys. if these guys have a good eye we'll have a good O and D. Wish they would've said something about what they saw at ST practice coz that's another worry spot. also i'd forgotten that we lost the RB coach Young (who was really good) in addition to levar...hope the new guys fill in their precedessor's shoes adequately

"Worry spot"?

There hasn't been a reason to worry about Hawkeye football in 25 years

What’s our record over the last 25 years heading West? And coming off Ohio St on a short week? I’d love to see it but not holding my breath.
I think ferentz played washington twice and won both. Terrible qb play on our end.
I think.
We have their number.

I would agree if not for the fact that Iowa will have very green qb's starting their first conference road game at the Big House. If they pass this test then I thing we will have a good season. Whittingham is a hell of a coach so there's that too.

I'd argue this is the second toughest game on the schedule. Tougher than @ Michigan due to the travel, short week and night game

In 2020 Spencer Petras had 2 NFL TE's (LaPorta/Beyer), 2 NFL Rb's (Goodson/Sargent) and 3 NFL WR's (Smith Marsette/Tracy/Jones along with Brandon Smith) his freshman year. That's a pretty good group of skill players.
Yeah cause the Covid season was all normal and real.
