I really think the housing bill is mainly ornamental - just passed to be able to say they tried something. I am not sure if there is anything in it that will really move the needle.
I was excited about it until I read what's in it. It basically just cuts out some red tape but does little to address the underlying causes of why housing is unaffordable.

And the red tape cut out will be nullified by lack of skilled workers.

maybe, maybe not. But we'll never know until somebody takes a leadership role. Right now it doesn't seem as if anyone is seriously talking about any of those programs. Republicans are mirroring the "do nothing congresses" of years past and Democrats seem interested in taxing billionaires and being against most of what trump proposes, not that anything trump proposes (after the tax act) will help a significant number of Americans...
🤣😂 🤣😂

Under Obama Dems did healthcare. And under Biden Dems did infrastructure.
He touts the BBB which had zero Dem support and is a terrible piece of legislation adding over $3T to the debt over the next ten years, shoveling billions to the wealthiest Americans while throwing needy families off assistance. Awesome. The GOP would have turned on the housing bill in a split second had Trump weighed in earlier. They passed it BECAUSE he supposedly supported it... until he didn't. Had they known earlier, they would have done their careful counting of the votes and allowed Collins, Murkowski, et al to vote for it while making sure they had just enough votes to sink it.

His very next comment was "I don't follow infrastructure." What's it matter if he doesn't follow it. It happened. His posts are a masterclass in avoidance.

BAU

Hakeem is owned by the billionaire donors. He will grease the skids to advance the republican agenda much like every other corporate democrat in the past. Can anyone remember an instance where a significant republican policy previously passed into law was rolled back by a corporate democrat? I remember Obama making the Bush tax cuts permanent and dropping a lot of bombs in the middle east.

Hakeem and Schumer won't do jack shid. That is why the base hates them with a passion and are voting in actual progressives and DSA at every opportunity.

Publican Prez. Check.
Publican majority in Senate. Check.
Publican majority in House. Check.

What’s the problem, do nothing azzes?
I'm not speaking for him, but I think what he means is that under current Senate rules you need 60 votes to end cloture and get to debate and a vote on the Senate floor. Republicans don't have 60 votes and therefore really don't control the Senate. Now if they eliminated the filibuster (which I do not think is a good idea) then republicans would only need 51 votes, which they have, and then they would have control of all three branches.

Disagree. If pubs really want something they have the power to make it happen. That is where the concept of give and take comes in

I can tell what they should do....lay their positions on key issues on the table...immigration, taxes, deficits, military, education, healthcare (pick a couple, they can't walk and chew gum at the same time), walk to the other chamber or white house and ask how we can start to work solutions.

But they won't

The day after the new house or Senate is sworn in they'll start laying the groundwork for 2028
Because that's what the Republicans, who have had control of all 3 chambers have done. It will be gridlock again.

you'll have to explain that a little...if what you're suggesting is that republicans need to work with Democrats and compromise, I'm on your team 100%. But, if you're suggesting republicans can get whatever they want passed with a 53 seat majority, then I have to know more about your thinking.

I have to admit, if the republican efforts in this congress were to prepare for 2026, their term was a distinct failure. In fact even if that wasn't their goal, this term has been a failure IMO

Charlamagne tha God: "One of the most confusing people in American politics -- Hakeem Jeffries. If you follow the corporate money, there's a reason they call him AIPAC Shakur, there's a reason they call him AIPAC Rocky.

I have a question for Hakeem in regards to Medicare for all. What changed? In 2019, you became a cosponsor to Medicare for All Act. In 2021, you were an original cosponsor for Medicare for All Act. Now in 2026, he says Medicare for all is not a legislation he cosponsors or supports. What changed? You appear to be with corporate America not the people."

February 2025, as Orange Jesus was rolling out Project 2025 fascism at breakneck speed...

Hakeem Jeffries met privately with Silicon Valley donors in bid to ‘mend fences.’

You just need to find a new party. You hate the Dems more than trump and GOP....

I know,Dems should run their campaigns on 10 dollar donations only.
They should alienate anyone and everyone that has real money.
Just let the crypto bros and AI overlords funnel billions to keep the gop in power for decades... that'll teach those corporate Dems.

You think you are the base of the dem party...you're not, you're just the loudest.
We re on the same side....I have voted dem only for 54 years...losing elections suck...we need independent voters to win and your all or nothing rhetoric does not play well with the indys I know.
And, like it or not, under our current system, money matters in campaigns.

Why do the Democrats have to be the responsible ones to come in and fix everything? The entire government (all three branches) are controlled by republicans. Where is the party of personal responsibility? You insult the dems (can't walk and chew gum), but it's your fiscal conservative party who is asleep at the wheel. Don't expect the dems to have to bend over and take what the republicans give them. If not for the electoral college, you guys could barely win an election.

Rick Wilson on Hakeem Jeffries meeting with Jared Kushner: “All the damage he’s done to this economy, to this country, the deaths he’s caused of American citizens in a gleefully stupid and evil war against immigrants. Are you telling me you’re going to negotiate with those ******* people? You look at them as legitimate counter-parties? That’s crazy talk. There is nothing in Jared Kushner that is not about serving his own and Donald Trump’s personal and financial interests. There’s nothing about this meeting that Democrats should be proud of. The only meetings you should take with the Trump administration have to do with their unconditional surrender”

sorry but you misunderstood my post. IMO democrats will run on a platform of "stop the madness", they'll propose affordability, just one example. So when they take over the house, it's your contention they should wait for republicans to come and fix everything/anything. Republicans have had 2 years to fix something. Now I doubt that's what you really mean, but when Dems take over they have to have something in their quiver to "stop the madness" a quote attributed to the "might be speaker of the house". Otherwise what difference does it make which party is in control?

I doubt Dems position will be sit back and take what republicans give them...which was my position....the democrats will do what members have done forever, plan for the next election. That's doesn't mean they won't try to pass bills that give them an edge to do just that...

Never TRUMP republicans turned democrats

These guys get what leftists have been saying and corporate democrats refuse to do - it's not enough to be against TRUMP....you have to stand for something and offer something to improve voters lives

Ben Dixon is spitting fire

These corporate democrat dumases are so bad at this, as they are with pretty much everything, that their several weeks long attack on Hasan and Abdul El-Sayed led to a Streisand Effect which moved Abdul from third to first. The first place candidate at the time and key mouthpiece in the attacks on Hasan and Abdul, Mallory McCuomo quickly plummeted in the polls, falling to third and soon thereafter dropping out.

Brian Tyler Cohen, who is hardly a leftist, gets it

the problem democrats have for the next two years is that Trump will be President. So all the things they want to do, all the promise they make, will have to overcome a presidential veto. Now, in a perfect world, they will compromise with trump and we'll get a government "for the people". While past performance is not indicative of future events, how confident is anyone that such compromise will happen.

Then in the 2028 election republicans will do exactly what democrats will do in 2026 and republicans did in 2024, blame democrats for making all the promises and failing to keep them...it's the circle of American political life. It's easy to make promises you know appeal to the masses but have no chance of ever getting past a presidential veto...at least then you have someone else to blame...

Ken Martin, the DNC Chairman and walking train wreck. He literally cried claiming David Hogg made his life difficult when Hogg wanted to primary long time do-nothing incumbents, of which there are many. He had Hogg kicked out of the DNC. He botched the "2024 Autopsy" on which he campaigned and refused to release. Pod Save America, a DNC friendly outlet, wiped the floor with him in an interview which went viral. The autopsy eventually was leaked. It was written by one of this friends who had instructions to avoid questions on known sensitive issues. Many key players throughout the party were never interviewed. Most recently, the DNC which is broke and in debt while the RNC is sitting on over a 100 million dollar war chest, had to put up its headquarters building as collateral for a loan. With all of that going on, this is how this loser spends his time.....
