My closing statement after a decent sleep and seeing that the sun rose this morning and I still have air in my lungs, MC played pretty badly. I hate numerous penalties and we did just that and from my vantage point majority of them were legit. As Coach Lynch said they looked lazy. They had no fight. When #5 got destroyed for that personal foul I didn't see one player get in a ESL face...not saying swinging fists but nobody stood up to them.....if I'm wrong tell me. I was also mad when Burrell made no effort to tackle that guy after that INT at midfield and let him run it back to the 2. The defense I thought played great for the most part, we weren't going to shut them out but on their end they did their job....the offense line was showing their inexperience and losing Startz was heartbreaking because he's a good kid who worked hard to win his spot and now his season is over. But Burrell had a couple catches but missed a couple as well.....time to be a leader!
That being said, as poorly as they played, they had a 2 score lead with 10 minutes left in the game and the dropped ball, frantic throw, INT and Burrells non tackle opened the flood gates and the fumble by Samuels, who played tough, caused the flood. 40 seconds I went from "Wow we are actually going to pull this out" to "We need a miracle"
Again, all credit to ESL. They played a relatively clean game, one bad penalty but that's gonna happen to any team in a heated game. They took advantage of what MC gave them and that's what good teams do. I said it for months if any team will beat them this year it's ESL because they match up well with our strengths. Our receivers were very rarely open. Thorton made 2 amazing leaps for TDs when he had great coverage on him. Not enough credit was given by people on how much talent they had. When someone picked them in the upset thread, I said "This won't be an upset, especially at a neutral field". Hats off to them, they beat us, no excuses or blame should be given, just frustration on MCs effort and laziness.
MC has a great team. To use to the old school sayings "Sometimes you need to get your azz kicked to wake you up and see the big picture". And "As long as they win the last game of the season....." Anxious to see how they rebound, I think they will!!
