Such a weird take bro. I’ll be sure and let Coach know how you are the good one who never lost faith LOL. Nobody is on here with hurt feelings, just you trying to puff yourself up while pissing on people that care about the program. We don’t get lucky and add the two late transfers and I doubt you are talking this much ****. I’m happy with how this worked out but it could have been much, much worse.
I don’t think it’s a weird take, it’s just that so many on here are so negative. Just look at the amount of whiff post and the fans bashing Pope. If he doesn’t get a player it’s called a whiff, if he does get a player it’s called lucky. Some of the fans talk trash about the players then when that player transfers they trash Pope for said player leaving. Bottom line is NIL has changed sports in a bad way and this is not the same sport anymore that many grew up with.

With how hard the SEC is now. An SEC regular season title and an elite 8, would be enough for a year 4, from me.

We need to be good all year. Period. No starting a game down 20 points to Mississippi State or some nonsense. No quitting 2 minutes in the second half if the team were playing is hot. If we lose in the NCAA before a final four it better be a good game. Make it to the weekend of the SEC tournament. You know, like actually get back to Kentucky basketball. This roster is back to Kentucky basketball, now we need the actual results everyone cares about. And I’m confident Pope knows the expectations, so LFG!

I also don’t know why UKCowboys gets so much engagement. Well I mean I guess I do, it’s the whole low hanging fruit thing. But maybe 1/10 of his posts are interesting or insightful or articulate, otherwise they are just really sophomoric one liners that typically just insult other posters with no interesting or original content. I’ve heard him actually try and provide an insightful basketball point maybe once or twice in the last three years. No idea why so many people constantly engage him, there’s nothing there. Starrcade is the same way but 98% of people ignore his posts, rightfully.

I agree. Need to come out with effort. No more "comeback" wins, where we come out, and look like we are asleep in the 1st half. Really hope to see the defense/defensive coaching improve as well. It seems we never defend 3 point shooters with our hands up.

What he meant is not articulated in the way he wrote it. The fact that you got it leads me to believe that you and him could be the same
I'll break it down real smooth for you.

Great roster, just needs to win now. Like a final four.
Johnnie said: "great roster, he needs to win now". Now meaning in YEAR 3 (this upcoming season)

I reply with

"With how hard the SEC is now. An SEC regular season title and an elite 8, would be enough for a year 4, from me".

Seeing as Now is YEAR 3, and he won the SEC and went to an elite 8. That would be good enough for a YEAR 4.

See right there in this post is the stupid **** some of y'all say. " If he didn't get lucky." he worked very hard to get both of those players just like any other coach, but if he is successful, then it's just luck. It's not just those two players, but the team has a whole is the one he put together. I agree we need to see the results that put us back on top, but some of you guys refuse to give him any credit.

@chroix Has supported Pope more than most of the board. He’s always gave credit where it’s due. Sure, he will call out concerns but he’s been a level headed poster and very far from a Pope hater. I’ve seen him swim against the current a few times to support something Pope did that others were crashing out over.

Just saying. Y’all got the wrong one in this witch hunt.

Take a look at this final roster. I quit reading these boards because of the negativity. Pope has done a masterful job of constructing this roster. Go Cats!!!!
And that has not a damn thing to do with coaching during the game. Calipari is the greatest recruiter that ever lived and in my opinion a subpar bench coach

This is your post, let’s take this for what you wrote, you’re implying that is enough for year 4, you’re not saying that’s enough for giving Pope a year 4.

I agree to a point but for the longest time this is exactly what Richie was doing just negative instead of the positive like cowboy does. They both should focus on maybe get behind this team instead of overly bashing or overly praising him.

What do you think "A year 4" means? If I meant enough for that season, I would say "would be enough for year 4".

Debate what I said about saying Pope just got lucky with Milan and Mitchelle. So do you say he was just unlucky for the ones he didn't get.

I’ve already covered that very topic in another thread. Yes, I think there was luck involved. The thing I think many do not consider is there’s always an element of luck involved with recruiting, something I’d be happy to clarify. But two things can be true: Pope was fortunate about the 5 for 5 ruling, yet Mitchel could have went elsewhere. It’s also true that Pope did a great job in recruiting. #1 portal class is the #1 portal class no matter how people spin it.

OK, you're gonna be killed for that comeback because I think anybody with half a brain can see he's talking about year three leads to year four
Maybe so fossil, but the guys pretty much a jerk. And I’ll double down on people like him all day.

i definitely think you can point to luck with Mitchell. How so? Because up until 2 weeks ago Mitchell wasn’t even eligible to play. Meaning no one was recruiting him. The only reason he was an option for us was because the 4 spot was recruited poorly and we were entering the season with that as a weak spot, which opened the door for Mitchell to come in. With sports though, at the end of the day sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, so I’ll take it. Now we just need to take advantage on the court. We have a GREAT roster.

Read it however you want man. We got lucky. I’m glad. Team would have been decent but without those last two adds were a S16 team at best. I like Pope and want him to succeed and agreed he worked his *** off but my point still stands.

Thanks man but it’s all good. Folks are used to people being polarized anymore. I just want my damn team to win.

The opportunity became available and worked hard to take advantage of it. That's all a part of recruiting year-round. I may have been too hard on you but seriously it's a fact that anything he does positive people say it was luck

I’m not going to validate the unregulated emotions of reactionary people on either side. The fights are stupid. Their take is as dumb as the other sides or you just agree with them and use different criteria for how you judge what you like vs what you don’t.
