This is an excellent opportunity for people who need some support to get back on their feet and become self-sufficient. Why would anyone think this is a bad thing?
The Radical Right has no sympathy for distressed citizens.
The GOP wants reduced SNAP benefits, shorter unemployment assistance, and less healthcare.
People like the OP are selfish pricks.

Yet Republican policies are creating more distressed citizens. Maybe they won't be able to afford the gas to get to the polling places this fall and we can start repairing the damage they've caused across Iowa.

Sand should be able to "coattail" some Dem candidates in November.
Probably not enough to gain the majority in the legislature, but put a good dent in the Republican dominance.
But...a good start in 2026 can lead to gaining the majority if/when he runs for reelection.
Republicans have done a decades worth of damage in Mississippi North.
Hopefully, we're back to being Iowa soon.

Yes it’s a good thing! Also, I’m not sure what conditions are attached to getting the housing, but if it means people need to at least be working a minimum wage job such as one at a fast food joint instead of panhandling at every intersection, color me all in.

Vacant hotels are also an eyesore and would most likely eventually attract trouble at some point.

This seems like some very responsible city management.

Cedar Rapids is doing something similar and it comes with some conditions for the individuals, I believe.

There are many abandoned/unused buildings like this in some of the larger cities.
People b.tch/complain about homelessness and this seems like an alternative.

Because OP and his ilk are pricks. Really not much more to it than that.

Yep. They have “Christian” in their Twitter bio but no empathy for those less fortunate than themselves.

And good move here - the more $ you invest to stabilize housing, the more $ you save on jails, law enforcement, ER and hospital - and it also provides a location to deliver mental health and social work services.
