“Intent” doesn’t matter. What you did is what matters. You either intended to do it or couldn’t control yourself enough not to do it. If I randomly fire a gun in a crowd & the bullet accidentally goes someone, you can bet my *** is going to jail.I could see this going either way, a firing or a suspension. It doesn't read to me that his intent was "I'm going to try and injure this player," but he clearly was not in control of himself either.
There are a lot of facts here that we are not presented with. Is this an isolated event, the first sign of trouble after 20 years of coaching? Or is this guy a serial offender with multiple prior suspensions?
The question though is should he have been fired ?The comments on some of the posts on social media defending the coach because “we need to be real men” and “wussification of America” drive me crazy. This isn’t how a real man acts. This is how a baby throwing a temper tantrum acts. As somebody earlier in this thread said, there is a way to coach your players hard without resorting to throwing temper tantrums and acting like an unruly toddler.
That’s my opinion also, we don’t have enough information. He could be a good guy who really cares about his players and no history of being out of control, or he could be a real @hole who deserves to get canned.I could see this going either way, a firing or a suspension. Did the kicker do something to "17 up"? I couldn't hear the rant.....I guess I’m just old school. My coach in SOFL taught Woody Hays how to grab face masks and ear hole helmets. If you didn’t want it to happen again, you didn’t 17 up again
How often do you see someone with no history of being out of control go berserk like that? That’s my opinion also, we don’t have enough information. If you want to stay stuck in the 80s, knock yourself out.The question though is should he have been fired ?
1) a leather air filled sack is not a deadly weapon
2) he could not have kicked the ball in anger and hit the kid in the groin if you gave him 1000 more tries, so I doubt that was his intention
it is wrong behavior and he should get chewed out by the AD and have to apologize to the kid and team, i Agree.
i played HS football in the 80s and this was common place coach goes nuts behavior. I ran a wrong pass pattern, a curl, and our 250 pound HC went nuts and when I wasn’t looking threw me to the ground. I had a helmet and pads on, was surprised but not upset. We laughed about it later. I never even considered telling my parents or filing a complaint.
How did you ascertain it’s an unbelievably important game vs any other from the clip? This looks like an unbelievably important game and perhaps the most important game in the lives of everyone involved. You have to take that into account and understand how the coach and the entire team had their lives ruined forever because of that player's mistake. It's a teachable moment. That's how you teach a kid a lesson about making a mistake and you turn him into a man who gets mad when a high school kid doesn't meet the standards and expectations of a responsible, mature adult male high school football coach.
I mean fire his a$$. What a douche of a grown-a$$ man who can't control his emotions.
The best decade ever. I’ll take back in a heart beatIf you want to stay stuck in the 80s, knock yourself out.
The guy lost his temper and kicked a football. What % of HS coaches have done that ? About 90%. My son just finished playing for two different pretty high level coaches so I was around what goes on today. They still scream and kick footballs. Maybe they dontHow often do you see someone with no history of being out of control go berserk like that?

Let's say he kicked and hit the kid 1000 times again, but never a nut shot...do you really think that somehow justifies or excuses what happened? The question though is should he have been fired ?

I know you are a troll, howeverLet's say he kicked and hit the kid 1000 times again, but never a nut shot...do you really think that somehow justifies or excuses what happened?
In those 1000 kicks, he may have hit him in the face and broken the kids nose 70 times.
He may have him the kid in the throat with the end of the ball 40 times. He may have drilled the kid in the mouth and kicked out a tooth 50 times.
He very well would have caused MORE pain and injury in with some kicks.
You justifying or excusing this because you think its a 1 in 1000 kick is, well, nuts.
And your football coach treating you like a 17ing ragdoll isn't justification or an excuse for how adult coaches treat players now.
You were mistreated. Don't normalize being mistreated.
Troll? I just think your comments are absurd because they excuse and perpetuate the long established issue of trusted adults mistreating children.I know you are a troll, however
1) he has a helmet on.
2). It’s a football. Essentially an air filled leather bladder. It is not a shot put fired out of a cannon
