Not the hold, the mat. James had a leg and was in position to get 2 and he backed off. That is how I remember it, but my memory isn’t feeling super strong today, haha.

I feel like the rule makes more sense in Greco, though. You need to do everything possible to encourage action in that style, lol.

Cortez vs Magomedov Russia 57kg Gold

Cortez looks bigger. Cortez in on a good single whizzer by Rus to stalemate. Fakes from space as Rus warned first. Cortez front headlock as Rus tries arm drag. Rus put on the clock. Cortez on single chest wrap 2 exposure for rus revseral for Cortez. Magomedov single as Cortez holds the ankle for dear life. Challenge cancelled 4-2 Rus at the break

2nd

Yianni hits challenge button by mistake and then cancels. Cortez deep single but Rus defends well. Cortez single potentially dangerous. 2 mins left. Lot of action for not much scoring. Cortez low single but Rus counters for TD 6-2 Rus. Cortez misses ankle pick and gives up easy go behind 8-2. Cortez double for late TD. 8-4 Magomedov wins gold. Silver for Cortez.

Cortez would hit a low single and Magomedov would sit the corner on repeat.

Bassett heavy on the head. Japan single attempt stopped by front headlock. Japan single deep to waterfall as Bassett holds the ankle for stalemate. Coference ends in nothing. Bassett single to Japan front headlock to stalemate. Japan on clock first. Aggressive hand fighting. Clock point. 1-0 Bassett with odd scramble on the edge to not give up a step out. 1-0 Bassett at the break.

Bassett diving single that Japan steps out of. Blood time for Bassett. Bassett reaching singles multiple times. Japan single deep but Bassett holds for stalemate. Bassett head outside. Japan chest wrap to exposure Bassett reversal and two trap arm turns. 6-2 Single Japan tries to chest wrap but Bassett catches for exposure 8-2 Bassett. Osedo starting to gas. Bassett standing him off with head/hands to win 8-2. Bassett wins Gold

Burton gives up a 4 pt arm spin AZE has trap arm but Burton reversal 4-1. AZE slips on arm spin. Burton fakes from space snaps to front headlock. Burton holding center with underhook trying to bulldoze AZE spins on edge but is pushed out. 4-2 and Burton quick TD 4-4 AZE at the break.

AZE breathing hard. Burton tries shrug. AZE shot to stalemate. Burton spin behind TD after 8 revolutions. 6-4 Burton. Burton underhook and leg for a 4 pointer. 10-4. Burton content to play head/hands with a minute left. AZE dives at a single and is flattened. Burton just sits for stalemate. Burton wins Bronze 10-4

Mastny vs Yergali KAZ 92kg Bronze

Mastny with some snaps to 2 on 1Kaz front headlock. Kaz snaps him but fails to get on him. Mastny warned first and then put on the clock . A lot of period is Mastny 2 on 1 and Kaz front headlock. Clock point Kaz warned. 1-0 Kaz at the break. Mastny isn't really using pace or being heavy on the head to wear out KAZ

Kaz holding center trying to avoid clock but goes on it anyway. KAZ underhook to step out. 2-0. 2 minutes left. Mastny not forcing the issue as KAZ hangs on head with Mastny 2 on1 tie. Mastny reaching but letting Kaz hang on his head. Mastny with push out with 30 left 2-1 Kaz. Mastny with single and TD 3-2 Mastny with 1 second left. Mastny wins Bronze with a late TD.

Ross looks like an Avenger out there. He is going to be trouble in the NCAA.

You just don't get athletes like that at heavyweight very often. Maybe not quite as athletic/explosive as Gable, but I can't name another heavy in the last 20yrs that is on their level (athletically), and he's a lot longer and should eventually get to 250+ while maintaining elite athleticism and conditioning. I don't see him as an NCAA champ as a freshman, but as someone else said, not totally out of the question that he's representing U.S. in '28.

It will be at Penn st in November. I'm not gonna give out the date but it's later than usual.

In 2024 the NCWA All Star Classic was held on Nov 16th. Last year it was held on Nov 1st. My best guess for this year’s Classic is Saturday Nov 7th since that’s the only weekend in Nov with an away football game.

Cael is there and was scrapping with Jayden a few days ago, according to social media. If I recall last year, KD cornered PJ up until the Penn State semester started, and he had NLWC coaches at senior worlds last year.

…and KD said it was the time for him to move on to his college coaches.

The three styles are commonly referred to as Greco Roman or just Greco, Women's and Freestyle.

Iowa had one recruit in freestyle. He went 0-1 and the wrestler who beat him got 11-0 TFd in the next round.

He was amazed that Cortez did Greco and switched to Free citing his U17 GR medal, not realizing how common that is in the US. There were multiple wrestlers on both teams just this season.
